Reboot of 1 Controversial Tom Cruise Movie Puts the Most Unhinged Role of His Career To Shame With Upcoming Season’s “Rock Star” Arc
Back in 1976, when the real world was facing some or other turmoil, the reader community was gushing over Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire book. The book also got a movie adaptation back in 1994 with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt leading the star cast.
Featuring vampires, ghosts, and witches to name a few, the book took the fiction market by storm and instantly became a must-read. Now, years after its initial release, the book is enjoying similar fame as a series on AMC is being premiered.
Tom Cruise starred as a Vampire in Interview with the Vampire
Taking a look at Tom Cruise’s filmography, one would be forced to wonder how the actor chooses which roles to take on. From romantic comedies and dramas to thriller flicks and science fiction mysteries, Cruise has dabbled in all genres and played some pretty eccentric roles, to say the least. Nonetheless, one of the most unhinged roles he ever played was that of Lestat de Lioncourt in Interview with the Vampire.
In the 1994 movie, he played the role of a narcissistic psychopath and repressed gay vampire who eventually turns his love interest into a creature of the night too. More than seeing Cruise and Brad Pitt in the same movie together, fans were surprised to see the character arcs included for Lestat. Moreover, the lovers of the book and author Rice herself further suggested Cruise was not the appropriate choice for the role.
In the end, when the movie was released, Rice and the other fans were proven wrong. Cruise gave a brilliant performance as the twisted Vampire and went on to impress the masses with his skills. People then saw the immense skill and charm Cruise was capable of bringing to a role, no matter what the role demands.
Interview with the Vampire season 3 will feature Lestat as a Rockstar
There has been an uproar in the fan community for making Lestat into a rockstar in the upcoming season of Interview with the Vampire on AMC. The season will be focusing on the second book in the Vampire Chronicles titled The Vampire Lestat. The book follows a pretty eccentric plot line where Lestat, after reawakening decades later craves some chaos and conflict. He publishes an autobiography and creates a rock album to stir things up for humans.
The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice dives deeper into Lestat’s childhood and the troubles he faced thereafter. Only time will tell what aspects the show decides to feature in the latest season of Interview with the Vampire. The cast of the show is expected to return for season 3 along with some new actors roped in for other roles. The release date and other production details have not been revealed so far.
