Riverdale Spin-Off ‘Katy Keene’ Has Been Ordered To Series By CW

The Riverdale Universe definitely got a little bigger when it was announced that Katy Keene has been picked up for series and is headed to the CW. It was announced on Tuesday (via Entertainment Weekly) that Katy Keene would be getting a series order from the network along with new series Nancy Drew and the highly anticipated Batwoman.
What Is Katy Keene About?
The Katy Keene series will revolve around the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters. This includes fashion-legend-to-be Katy Keene (Lucy Hale). The show will follow them as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. The series is set to be a musical dramedy which chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway.

The show will begin years after the high school set events of Riverdale, and will feature an appearance from an older Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray).
Who Is Katy Keene In The Comics?
Katy Keene first debuted in Archie Comics in 1945. She was dubbed as “America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions” because Katy was a model, actress and singer who juggled her career with her personal life. But the character fell out of print in the early 1960s. But she was revived back in the early 1980s.
The character has only made a few appearances in recent years and one of which includes the 1994 Archie Meets the Punisher.
Who Are Joining The Cast Of The Riverdale Spin-Off?
The cast is shaping up nicely. Joining the show are Jonny Beauchamp as Jorge/ Ginger Lopez, Julia Chan as Pepper Smith and Camille Hyde with Lucien Laviscount as Alexandra and Alexander Cabot. Murray will be reprising her Riverdale role as Josie.

The pilot is being written by Michael Grassi and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the later of whom serves as a Showrunner for Riverdale as well as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He also is the CCO of Archie Comics.

The drama will be produced by Warner Bros. and it will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Archie CEO Jom Goldwater.
Riverdale airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
