It seems like Robert Downey Jr. will be stepping back into his shoes as Sherlock Holmes for the third installation in the Sherlock Holmes series.

This revelation came via Downey’s official Twitter handle where he posted a GIF of himself from Sherlock Holmes movies with a caption, “Practicing my Sherlock face.”

The film features Downey as Holmes alongside Jude Law as Dr. Watson. The third film is rumoured to begin its filming in late 2018 and its script is being written by Chris Brancato. Guy Ritchie will be returning back to his directing shoes for the film.

The first Sherlock Holmes film released in 2009 and was received well by fans and critics as it managed to earn $524 million worldwide. Downey also bagged in the Golden Globe Award for his performance and the film even won two Academy Awards nominations.

Its sequel came out in 2011, titled Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. The film received a mixed reception from people worldwide and it managed $545 million.

The film is scheduled to release on Christmas Day 2020.
