Following after 2 years of the release of the sequel  Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with a cliffhanger ending, the idea of a third film has been prevalent, and yet development progress is quite slow. According to Robert Downey Jr.’s wife and producer, Susan Downey, the project is still a “priority” for the Iron Man star.

The Sherlock Holmes film franchise might not be on the same level as the MCU, but the stardom and exceptional performance of Robert Downey Jr. have helped it reach success. The franchise’s third film is looking to cast Johnny Depp as its villain.  It was earlier reported that Johnny Depp might enter Sherlock Holmes 3 with Robert Downey Jr.’s effort, but that speculation diminished within a few months. With no further updates on the matter, fans believed Downey Jr. had dropped the axe on getting Depp a role in Sherlock Holmes 3.

BBC’s Sherlocks series Grapples for a Potential Revival

Amid Guy Ritchie bringing back the classic character to the screen, the popular  BBC TV show Sherlock, starring  Benedict Cumberbatch as the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as his loyal partner, Dr. John Watson. Watson once shared his perception of the show’s possible return, however, Mark Gatiss, the co-creator and actor of the series, acknowledges his interest, and cites the difficulty of rebooting the show, pointing out the challenges to generate interest and funding for the film.  He made a comparison to Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man endeavor, which required eight years of commitment but was never completed. Despite the obstacles, Gatiss expressed genuine interest in transitioning the popular TV series into a Sherlock movie. he, said.

“People think you can just wave a wand. It’s incredibly difficult to get people interested and get films made.” “But, also, we were genuinely interested in making them for TV because we love TV. We would love to make a Sherlock movie. It’s the natural thing to do.”

The BBC’s Sherlock is a modern adaptation of the classic tale, which is primarily set in a modern world filled with technology and television. It aired from 2010 to 2017, and quickly gained global acclaim. The series featured complex puzzles for Sherlock and Watson to solve, and Watson documented their escapades on his blog, giving a unique twist to the storytelling. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s chemistry and performances were especially praised. Moffat and Gatiss have since reunited for the BBC’s Dracula, and fans hope for them to soon bring back the Baker Street detective.
