Robert Pattinson Discusses with Christopher Nolan about his new role as Batman
Robert Pattinson took advantage of working with Christopher Nolan on his upcoming movie – Tenet (due release on July 16, 2020) about his new role as Batman in Matt Reeves next film.
Christopher Nolan- the man responsible for the most popular Batman movies -The Dark Knight trilogy, was the one who was directing Christian Bale on how to move within that Batsuit for three films.
The Batsuit is actually uncomfortable when you think about it
The Batsuit isn’t generally known for its comfort or freedom of movement and although he already knew physically how he wanted to play the Dark Knight, doing that inside the Batsuit is an entirely different thing than outside of it.
In a new interview with Variety, he reveals that after the final audition for the role, he got to try the suit on for the first time. He distinctly remembers the feeling of trying on the new suit and shares the experience on the interview.
“I put it on. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’ You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the leg.’”

How he moved was different within the suit, so he had to adjust things like his balance to compensate for the costume. So, Robert Pattinson consulted with Christopher Nolan on how he could get more movements within the Batsuit. “You’re trying to think of the way to balance, how to bring something new to it and not want to scare people off,” Pattinson said. “And work in the confines of the costume,” Pattinson said to Variety.
It is quite unlikely that the Batsuit that Robert Pattinson will be wearing in Matt Reeves’ film is the same as any that came before it, but there are probably only so many ways to make a Batsuit; in fact, most superhero suits have similar restrictions and thus Christopher Nolan’s advice was still valuable. That advice will hopefully come in handy and we’ll get a Batman from Robert Pattinson that is physically convincing and allows the actor’s performance to shine through the suit.
The movie The Batman is expected to be released on 25 June 2021.
