Rumour: Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney + Show To Feature Older And Bearded Jar Jar Binks
Star Wars is undoubtedly one of the most famous and long running franchises. There have been multiple movies, games, comics and more which have expanded this universe. While the Skywalker Saga has come to an end (for now), the Star Wars Universe continues expanding. It seems that right now one of the upcoming Star Wars TV series could be dipping back into one of the most controversial aspects of the prequel trilogy- Jar Jar Binks. How? Read on.
But how about you take a little detour and check out the top ten powerful Jedis in the Star Wars Universe:
New Obi Wan Kenobi Series Will Include Jar Jar Binks
A new rumour is making its rounds. It is claiming that Jar Jar Binks will return in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series which is coming to Disney+. That’s not it. Jar Jar Binks is also apparently going to sport a very different look in the series as well.
Where did this rumour originate from? It came from Jason Ward, Editor-in-Chief of Making Star Wars. He himself calls it a rumour since it hasn’t been verified it. After all, the Obi Wan Kenobi series hasn’t even gone into production yet. But Ward has full faith in his scoop. In his outlet he notes that:
“I’m told ‘Ben’ Kenobi crosses paths with his old friend from Naboo, Jar Jar Binks. Early work has been conducted for the CGI Gungan’s return to Star Wars. Jar Jar has a beard to reflect where he’s been and what his life has been like since they were all deceived by a great lie that ushered in the first Galactic Empire. Kenobi will not be the only bearded character this time.”
Will Jar Jar Binks Be Well Received By Star Wars Fans This Time?
A lot of Star Wars fans are still scarred by Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. They may be triggered to hear that Jar Jar could be coming back. But it’s been quite a long time since Phantom Menace and who knows, Jar Jar may end up being one of the most loved characters. After all, with time, the lens through which Star Wars has been viewed is changing as well. There’s even a movement which wants Jar Jar to get better treatment than George Lucas’ questionably offensive Caribbean caricature.
Under the hands of Obi Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow, Jar Jar could turn out to be a much wiser and older version than the silly version we know. Maybe he will actually feel the weight of his role in causing the end of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. As for the titular character of the series, many have speculated that the show will deal with Obi Wan’s own feelings of uncertainty and guilt. Also we have to ask- is Ewan McGregor really getting ready to reprise his role?
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is expected to start filming in summer 2020.
