It’s said that the best thing in a woman is her confidence. But what happens when society and her professional industry try to shake that very confidence? Something akin to this happened to actress Scarlett Johansson back in 2011. Despite the media trying very hard to tarnish her reputation, Johansson remained firm in her beliefs and her values.

No matter what struggle came her way, the Black Widow actress truly overcame all challenges to finally become one of the most influential and highest-paid actresses of modern Hollywood. From motherly and domestic roles to fierce assassins and spy roles, Johansson has done it all with extreme grace.

Back when Scarlett Johansson was not as famous as she is presently, her nude images were leaked online. It was later found that the images were for her then-husband Ryan Reynolds. Her reputation faced a massive hit as people could only talk about her as a s*x symbol and not as a talented actress that she certainly was and still is.

Nevertheless, her confidence remained unshaken. She faced all media interactions and interviews gracefully and unapologetically. Johansson has worked hard on looking as great as she does and she has always believed that there’s no harm in flaunting what you got. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she shared,

I know my best angles. They were sent to my husband. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno Although there’s nothing wrong with that either.

In 2011, people were not used to such candor and flourishing confidence in oneself. Johansson’s personality was a breath of fresh air in a world where nobody had the courage to stand out. Since then, however, she has been seen as a symbol of beauty and perfectly great looks when she should have been known for her work in Hollywood.

Today, more actresses like Megan Fox, Sydney Sweeney, Ana De Armas, and even Margot Robbie are seen as bombshell actresses who perform well just because they look good. It’s as if their body clouds all other aspects of their personality. The modern actresses are trying very hard to shake off that image and be known for their talent instead.

With roles in movies like Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, Johansson has truly shut down all trolls who only saw her as a pretty woman. She has time and again proved that she is more than her body as her talents as an actress outshines all. From romance and comedy to action and drama, Johansson has dabbled in various genres and proved her mettle in this cut-throat industry.

Her latest venture Fly Me to the Moon has garnered amazing reviews, once again consolidating her place in the industry as a fierce talent to look out for. She told Bruce Bozzi in his Table for Two podcast how her initial roles carved her niche in the industry. Johansson said,

I did ‘Lost in Translation’ and ‘Girl With the Pearl Earring,’ and by that point, I was 18, 19 and I was coming into my own womanhood and learning my own desirability and sexuality. I was kind of being groomed, in a way, to be this what you call a bombshell-type actor. I was playing the other woman and the object of desire and I suddenly found myself cornered in this place. I couldn’t get out of it.

Finally, she feels free of that image now as it’s become a relic of the past. Today, she is known for her serious and dramatic roles that she portrays with equal grace and skill. While she understands that the image is a product of values that are ingrained in society, Johansson emphasizes the fact that she has outgrown it and moved on.
