“She hates it so much…”: Ariana Grande’s 1 Tattoo Keeps Disappearing and Reappearing as Golden Globes Appearance Has Fans Speculating
- Ariana Grande has gotten dozens of tattoos since she first started getting tattoos in 2012.
- Grande's butterfly tattoo keeps vanishing and returning back, and fans can't help but speculate.
- The 7 Rings singer has matching tattoos with Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.
Ariana Grande has been widely known for her incredible vocal range and now, also her acting skills. However, that is not all where she shows her creativity. Even the tattoos inked on her body are quite creative and intriguing, and even more intriguing is the fact that some of her tattoos keep disappearing and reappearing.
In the past couple of years, her tattoos have shown more occurrences of disappearance than even which is most probably because she has been working on the musical film, Wicked. Although as enticing as the thought of a tattooed Glinda flying around in her bubble on the big screen is, it is for the best that we stick to the source material and go with a clear-skinned Glinda. That said, Grande’s disappearing and reappearing butterfly tattoo has netizens speculating.
The saga of Ariana Grande’s vanishing and reappearing butterfly tattoo has got people talking
According to Business Insider, Ariana Grande began getting inked in 2012 and has not stopped since. She has 61 tattoos in total that we know of. The first of these was the outline of a heart on the toe of her right foot. Two years later, she had the phrase “mille tendresse” inked on the back of her neck and many other such things in the upcoming years.
Grande debuted the outline of a butterfly tattoo on her left arm at the 2020 Grammys. Fans were quick to notice it peeking from under the opera gloves she was wearing along with her outfit. Later that year, another butterfly tattoo could be seen above the first one, and the new one was filled in.
Just like all of her other tattoos, these also looked beautiful, but she has often been photographed with them covered up with makeup for some reason or the other. They appeared faded on her arm when she graced the Met Gala 2024 red carpet. Something similar also happened at the Golden Globes 2025 where the tattoos appeared to have faded.
Naturally, this sparked reactions from fans who noticed her arm and observed that the tattoo appeared faded. Here is what some of them have to say on X:
i thought this was a vein and she was like exercising or something

she hates it so much atp😭

it may be just makeup, tattoo removal takes a long time sadly, like 20 sessions or more for complete erasure

There is no specific argument as to why the 7 Rings songstress is trying to cover up that specific tattoo or trying to get it removed (although that is a lengthy process). To add to the mystery, there have been instances when the rest of her tattoos have been on display except this one (via PEOPLE).
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have matching Wicked tattoos
It is now no secret how deep of a bond Ariana Grande shares with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo. The duo’s promotional tour for the film was full of emotional moments and some meme-worthy ones too. To commemorate their friendship, they have even gotten matching tattoos.
In January 2024, Grande posted a picture of her palm resting next to the Tony winner’s to showcase their new ink, which read “For Good”. It refers to the eponymous song from the Broadway adaptation of the musical. Erivo later revealed to Entertainment Tonight how much it meant to them.
I want to say ‘For Good’ is one of the most… like it’s really special to us. It just — it was a really special day. We filmed it over a week [and] we felt like it was a lot for the both of us, in our hearts, you know?
They also have matching poppy tattoos on their hands (via Pop Base on X). This one seems to be a reference to the Wizard of Oz scene where Dorothy falls asleep in a field of poppies and is woken up by Glinda and her friends. During an appearance on the Today show, they confirmed that they also had a secret tattoo.
