The first season of the One Piece Live Action that was released last year had fans losing their minds over the production level of the series. The cast was definitely one of the major upsides to the Live Action, as they were successful in bringing the characters to life.

Now, with the second season in production, fans are thrilled to see which actors will portray their beloved characters in season two. One actress fans were thrilled to see play a beloved role was none other than the Academy Award winner, Jamie Lee Curtis. However, unfortunately, fans will not get to see Curtis play Doctor Kureha in the upcoming season of the One Piece Live Action.

Season two of the One Piece Live Action will cover the Arabasta Arc. Fans are excited to see quite a ton of beloved characters make live-screen debut in the series, with characters such as Chopper, Dr. Hiriluk, Dalton, and many more. However, the character that has had fans the most excited was none other than Dr. Kureha given how Jamie Lee Curtis, the actress who was actually supposed to play her character, shared striking resemblances.

Given that both Jamie Lee Curtis and the producers for One Piece Live Action were on the same page and showed interest in casting Curtis for the role of the beloved One Piece character, Doctor Kureha, it was obvious that the Academy Award winner was the perfect person to play the role of the Doctor. However, unfortunately to a conflict in scheduling, we will not see Curtis bring the character to life.

There are still some actresses who can nail the role, however, given how fans had gotten so attached to the idea of seeing the veteran actress play Dr. Kureha, they are certainly disappointed to hear the unfortunate news. The fans took to X to voice out their distress at the unfortunate news.

Curtis is currently filming the Disney Sequel to Freaky Friday, which could probably have been the reason why she decided to give up her role in One Piece Live Action. The executive producer of the show, Becky Clements, talked more on this during an interview with Deadline.

With season 2 of One Piece Live Action getting more steam, Deadline got the opportunity to interview the executive producer of the series. This gave them an opportunity to ask about the casting of Jamie Lee Curtis given how she seemed excited to play the role of Dr. Kureha. However, to everyone’s surprise, she would break the bad news during the interview.

When asked if Jamie Lee Curtis was joining the series this season, Clements answered;

She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.

Becky Clements later revealed that they had found an amazing replacement to play the character of Dr. Kureha. With all the eyes that the second season of One Piece Live Action is receiving, there is little to no margin for error. But, given how they managed to nail the first season, it would be interesting to see them pull off another banger again.
