Shogun Producers Provide A Cryptic Update On Its Season 2
During the Television Critics Association’s annual press tour in August 2018, FX announced the production of the television miniseries based on James Clavell’s novel Shogun. Fans have been waiting for the theatrical release of the Hiroyuki Sanada-led epic drama series for a long time. During the promotion of the upcoming drama, executive producer Michaela Clavell, daughter of author James Clavell provided a cryptic update on the second season of the historical drama. While talking about the possibility of the season 2 with The Direct, Clavell mentioned-
“You know, the audience will let us know whether there’s, there is their appetite for that. We shall see. It’s a great question. I wish I knew the complete answer, but I don’t.”
The official synopsis of Shogun states-
“Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.”
However, Shogun hasn’t even premiered yet, it has already been subjected to positive reviews by movie experts and critics. Shogun is one of the most anticipated projects of 2024. Looking at the scale of production and Hiroyuki Sanada’s outstanding acting, the possibility of Shogun’s critical and financial success cannot be denied.
Michaela Clavell On How COVID Helped Them To Develop Shogun In A Better Way
While talking about Shogun and addressing its popularity on the internet, executive producer Michaela Clavell revealed how COVID-19 helped them develop the miniseries in a better way. During an interview with the entertainment outlet The Direct, Clavell confessed that the entire crew of Shogun got extra time during the pandemic, which helped them polish the details during the production of the historical drama. She said-
“And COVID, in a way, played into our ability to do that because that gave us extra time. There were delays in the shooting schedule, of course, like for everyone who was shooting at that time. And I think that time Justin and Rachel and everyone made use of, to really polish the level of detail that’s shown in this production.
She further continued to say-
And we were given that gift in a very strange package called COVID. But a tremendous amount of expertise went into the preliminary, the pre-production of this show, and I think it shows.”
The star-studded cast of the epic saga includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Cosmo Jarvis, Nestor Carbonell, and Tommy Bastow. After the trailer release of Shogun, fans went on to compare the 10-episode-led drama with the widely watched fantasy drama Game Of Thrones for its large-scale sequences.
Shogun starts streaming on FX on February 27, 2024.
