Innumerable events had to be suspended owing to the pandemic. The TIME 100 Gala was no different. After two years of suspension, the annual Gala to honor the members of the TIME 100 list was held on 8th June 2022. The gala was held at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center. A meeting of the world’s 100 most influential people was supposed to be a grand affair. And the 2022 TIME 100 Gala did not disappoint. Simu Liu, who was a member of the list, hosted the event. But the Shang Chi actor had to be kept in check by Andrew Garfield, who advised Simu Liu to ‘Shut the f-ck up!’
Why did Andrew Garfield Snap at Simu Liu?
Simu Liu while hosting the event with 200-guests could be seen inquiring about one thing or the other, even asking Bill Gates whether he had tried boba tea. One such inquiry saw him wonder whether the Illuminati was real and if it was why hadn’t he been invited. Furthering the joke, Simu Liu said that Andrew Garfield had an idea about them. To this, the Tick Tick Boom actor replied with denial followed by a warning to ‘Shut the f-ck up!’.

This epic response shows why we all absolutely love Andrew Garfield.
A Night to Remember
The TIME 100 Gala attracted some of the biggest personalities from around the globe, including celebrities like Zendaya and Amanda Seyfried. But the list is not limited to celebrities. As TIME CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Edward Felsenthal, said:
“Tonight is about honoring superheroes: superheroes across every field. Artists and athletes, icons and innovators, leaders of companies, countries, and movements. People who are blasting through closed doors and opening them for others.”
Each of the members on the list was recommended by notable personalities. Zendaya was recommended by Dune director, Dennis Villeneuve, for being a “cultural icon in the making,” while Martin Scorsese recommended Andrew for being “one of the greats of his generation.”
All the stars who were nominated to the list for one reason or the other graced the red carpet with their presence. Zendaya looked stunning in a black, blue, and teal, geometric gown.
Amanda Seyfried wore a black (and rather unorthodox) Carolina Herrera dress. Simu Liu walked the red carpet in a blue suit, while Andrew Garfield looked suave in a black suit. Taika Watiti also graced the red carpet in a white suit.
A Night for Peace and Unity
Perhaps one of the most notable personalities on the list was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian President gave a 10-minute video address to draw the world’s attention to the plight of his country and the important role all the people in the room had to play.
The Oscar winner, Ariana DeBose, shared a toast to the LGBTQIA+ community and the power the future generations wielded. The focus on social issues in the gala is a reminder of the role, the people have to play.
