SUMMARY
  • Simon Kinberg is creating a new 'Star Wars' trilogy with fresh characters and stories.
  • The new trilogy will be set after 'The Rise of Skywalker,' but not continue its story.
  • Upcoming 'Star Wars' projects include 'Mandalorian,' two untitled movies and more.

It’s been a long time since we got a new Star Wars movie in theaters. The last one, The Rise of Skywalker, wrapped up the whole Skywalker saga back in 2019. And ever since then, we’ve been having a blast with all the Star Wars shows on Disney+ like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor, and more.

We even got The Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew coming soon. Star Wars is alive and well on the small screen, but what about the big screen? Well, guess what? It looks like the next chapter of Star Wars will come in the form of a brand-new movie trilogy, and it’s going to be written and produced by none other than Simon Kinberg.

If you know anything about movies, you’ll know Kinberg is a big deal. So, let’s break it down and see what we can expect from Kinberg’s upcoming Star Wars trilogy, plus a sneak peek at all the other exciting projects coming our way in the Star Wars universe. There’s a lot to look forward to.

A whole new Star Wars trilogy is happening, and Simon Kinberg is in charge of it. Yes, that Simon Kinberg—the man behind some of the biggest superhero movies like X-Men: Days of Future PastDeadpool, and Logan. He’s also worked with Lucasfilm before, so he’s no rookie when it comes to the Star Wars universe.

In fact, the 51-year-old was one of the creative minds behind the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, and he even helped out with The Force Awakens back in 2015. Now, Kinberg is getting his chance to make his own Star Wars films, and he’s teaming up with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to produce the trilogy.

Now, here’s the burning question: Where will Kinberg’s Star Wars trilogy even start? Will it take place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, or will it go way back in time to the days of the Old Republic or the rise of the Sith?

So far, Lucasfilm has been pretty tight-lipped about the details, but we do know a few things. According to Deadline, this new trilogy won’t pick up where the Skywalker Saga left off. That’s right—no Rey, no Finn, no Poe, and definitely no Skywalkers.

It’s going to be set in the same galaxy, but it will introduce a whole new set of characters, worlds, and conflicts. It could even take place far into the future, long after the events of the Skywalker Saga, or it might go back to an earlier time, maybe even exploring the roots of the Jedi or the Sith. Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess right now.

One thing we can probably count on, though, is that it will be epic. And while we don’t know much about the story yet, we’re crossing our fingers that it’s going to be a ride full of epic battles, mind-blowing twists, and—of course—lightsabers. After all, if there’s one thing Star Wars does best, it’s lightsabers.

Upcoming Star Wars Projects to Keep You Hooked

Now, while we’re all excited about Kinberg’s new trilogy, let’s not forget that the Star Wars universe is far from done. In fact, there’s so much coming down the pipeline, it’s hard to keep up. But don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.

First up, let’s talk about The Mandalorian. If you’re not watching this show, are you even a Star Wars fan? The Mandalorian is the crown jewel of Star Wars TV, and it’s coming back for more episodes on May 22, 2026.

We’ll get more adventures with the helmet-wearing bounty hunter, Din Djarin, and of course, Baby Yoda—Grogu—who’s managed to steal all of our hearts. This show has been huge, and there’s no sign of it slowing down anytime soon.

But wait, there’s more! Lucasfilm has not one, but two more untitled Star Wars movies coming in December 2026 and December 2027. While the details on these movies are still super secret, we know that they’ll probably tie into Kinberg’s new trilogy—or they might be completely separate stories.

Either way, they’ll be packed with action, adventure, and all the things we love about Star Wars. And we can’t forget about Skeleton Crew, which is another upcoming Star Wars series that we know little about, but we’re hyped nonetheless.

Plus, there are other fan-favorite shows like Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett that will keep fans engaged in the Star Wars universe until Kinberg’s trilogy is ready to launch.

With all of these projects in the works, it’s clear that Star Wars isn’t going anywhere. If anything, it’s going to get even bigger. And while we wait for Kinberg’s trilogy, we’ve got plenty of other galactic goodness to tide us over.
