Squid Game, the survival thriller series, first made waves in Hollywood with the release of its first season on Netflix in 2021. After its huge critical and commercial success, the show is now all set to return for a second season and a release date for the same has already been revealed.
The second season of Squid Game has been highly anticipated and a teaser trailer for the same has also been released recently.
Squid Game Season 2 Will Begin Streaming on TV Screens on This Date
Few TV shows gain the kind of popularity Squid Game did with a single season. The South Korean show follows a contest that involves 456 players who play deadly children’s games to win the huge cash prize of 45.6 billion South Korean won. It was based on the creator Hwang Dong-hyuk’s own financial struggles as well as the class disparity and Capitalism in his native country.
The nine-episode series became the most-watched non-English language TV show. It has been viewed more than 2 billion hours on the platform over roughly an eight-hour run time, with a collective 265 million total views. It was also the breakthrough foreign language show to be nominated at the Emmys.
It won 6 out of the 14 categories it was nominated for, including Best Drama Series (the first non-English-language production to do so) which it lost to Succession. More than three years later, the second season of the show is set to be released on December 26, 2024 (via Tudum).
The new season will see Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo reprise their roles as the contestant Seon Ji-hun, Front Man, and Recruiter respectively. They will be joined by many new cast members.
What to Expect from Squid Game Season 2?
The teaser trailer (via YouTube) for the second season picks up exactly where the first one left off when Seong Gi-hun abandoned his plans to go to the U.S. and instead started a daring chase with a new goal. In the teaser, he is seen back in his 456-numbered green jumpsuit along with many other new contestants. A glimpse of the games is given and another humungous cash prize awaits them.
Season 2 will see Gi-hun trying to exact revenge like he had sworn at the end of Season 1. He joins the game once again intending to avenge the Front Man and end the game for good. It has been previously revealed that the show will end with a third and final season, scheduled to be released next year.
