Statement Issued By HBO On Donald Trump’s Use Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Trademark
Just a few hours after Donald Trump tweeted using a font type similar to Game of Thrones with a slogan that read, “sanctions are coming!”, HBO has responded with a statement of its own.
As re-posted by EW, the network says: “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes.”

In the tweet, Trump shared his picture which read “Sanctions are coming” in the same font as Game of Thrones. This is an obvious reference to the famous “Winer is Coming” tagline used by HBO to describe the harsh future ahead. The date on the tweet refers to the day when Trump administration will pass sanctions against Iran.
Earlier, Trump backed out of the nuclear deal that was struck by Barack Obama in 2015. Trump also accused Tehran of funding militants as well as destabilizing the area with missile technology.
Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State, told reports that the administration is set to place all sanctions back on the country.
“On November 5th, the United States will reimpose sanctions that were lifted as part of the nuclear deal on Iran’s energy, shipbuilding, shipping, and banking sectors,” Pompeo said.
“These sanctions hit at core areas of Iran’s economy. They’re necessary to spur changes we seek on the part of the regime. In order to maximize the effect of the President’s pressure campaign, we have worked closely with other countries to cut off Iranian oil exports as much as possible.”
According to HBO, Game of Thrones will return for its final season in 2019.
