Taylor Swift Becomes Target for Terrorist Plot as Vienna Concert Gets Cancelled in Upsetting Move for Fans
- Taylor Swift’s Vienna concerts were canceled over a serious terrorist threat.
- Austrian police discovered a plot, arresting two suspects with explosive materials.
- Officials said the threat was directed at the concerts, not at Taylor personally.
Imagine waiting for months to see a Taylor Swift concert, only to find out it’s canceled. That’s what recently happened to Swifties who were eager to enjoy their idol’s performance. Tay’s eagerly awaited Eras Tour concerts in Vienna have been canceled. Austrian police recently revealed that they had discovered a plan to target the 34-year-old’s concerts.
They arrested two people while investigating the thorough surveillance operation. Swift was set to perform at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as part of the international leg of her Eras Tour.
Terrorist Threat Forces Cancellation of Taylor Swift’s Concerts in Vienna
Barracuda, the show promoter from Austria, has announced that the sold-out concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium, scheduled from Thursday to Saturday, are now canceled. The Instagram cancellation reads:
With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.
Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf and Police Chief Gerhard Pürstl said at a news conference on Wednesday (via NBC News) that one of the suspects, a 19-year-old who supported ISIS, was found with chemicals. Although he didn’t have all the parts for a bomb, the risk was serious enough to take action.
Authorities said the threat was against the concerts, not Taylor Swift herself. To stay safe, the shows were canceled even with good security. Ticket holders will be refunded, and fans can check Swift’s official site for more details. T-Swizzle hasn’t spoken about the situation on social media or confirmed the cancellations yet.
However, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed disappointment about the cancellations on X, and said the situation was very serious. He praised the officials for spotting the threat early and stopping what could have been a disaster.
Taylor Swift’s Fear Over Concert Security
Taylor Swift has previously voiced worries about security at her concerts. In 2019, she shared her fear with Elle following the Manchester Arena bombing and the Las Vegas shooting. The songstress said:
“After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was completely terrified to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months.
Despite extensive safety measures, the new threat has led to even more precautions. The Lover star rarely cancels shows. Her last cancellation was in Rio de Janeiro due to extreme heat and the death of a fan. The recent incident in Vienna is a first for her. It shows the increasing need for better security at big events.
