“That was actually like a big inspiration to us”: Seth Rogan’s R-rated Show ‘Sausage Party: Foodtopia’ is Oddly Inspired By One of the Most Famous Books of All Time
- Seth Rogan's Sausage Party: Foodtopia is oddly inspired by Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.
- Rogan learned how a society is formed and maintained to showcase the story of Foodtopia well.
- Sausage Party: Foodtopia ranks lower than Sausage Party movie on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite being a humorous series on food filled with s*xual innuendos, Sausage Party: Foodtopia is bizarrely a true reflection of society and how humans function. Seth Rogan did not just create an empty frilly universe of talking food items. Actual thought went into creating intricate personalities and seeing how each character would finally behave in the story.
The show is continuing the story from the 2016 animated movie Sausage Party. It did not chart at the top of the box office but entertained people enough such that the creators felt it was time to take the story further.
Seth Rogan shares Odd Inspiration behind Sausage Party: Foodtopia
Seth Rogan’s quirky sense of humor created a masterpiece at the intersection of food and humor. Created with animated food items that can walk and have their own little lives, the movie Sausage Party came out in 2016, after which the creators are now releasing a sequel show.
The show is set to feature a world without humans where food can reign supreme and take over the planet. The nasty agenda of the characters has finally culminated in a human-free world, thus, the title of the show indicates a Foodtopia. Sharing his inspiration behind bringing such real-life aspects to an animated series, Rogan told Collider,
To us, as the people working on it, it’s fun to engage in things that we actually find interesting. All of us had read that book Sapiens that was actually like a big inspiration uh to us because it was about like the formation of society and like how people paired off and grouped up and made cities and towns and decided made money and all this stuff and currency.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a bizarre concept nevertheless. The creative genius behind the story and the characters is tremendous. Learning that the showrunners were inspired by the best-selling book Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari is an interesting revelation. It also makes sense since the narrative of the show is focused on creating a society where food items can thrive without humans.
Moreover, the story gets doubly interesting when we see the food items engage in s*xual activities and make jokes on the same premises. While many may have thought about the hot dog bun and the sausage innuendo, Sausage Party: Foodtopia actually makes it come alive on screen.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia garners average score on Rotten Tomatoes
Who doesn’t like a little raunchy comedy? Rogan’s projects mostly contain the highest possible level of humor that is made only for adults. His next venture Sausage Party: Foodtopia is no different. The animated series is specifically made for adults due to the sensitive content it showcases. While fans may have liked the Sausage Party movie, they seem to be indifferent to the sequel show.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia has garnered merely a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes as compared to the glowing 82% received by its predecessor movie. Since only two episodes of the show have been released to date, we expect the ratings to be revised once the entire season is out.
You can watch weekly episodes of Sausage Party: Foodtopia on Amazon Prime Video.
