“That’s the direction we should go in”: Vincent D’Onofrio Wants Kingpin to Appear in This Movie Next after Daredevil: Born Again
Vincent D’Onofrio has become a well-known face in the world of superheroes. Perfectly emulating the villainous Kingpin from the Marvel comics, the actor understands the intricacies of the evil world the character belongs to. His terror has stood out significantly in the series Daredevil and Echo. He will next be seen in Daredevil: Born Again reprising his original role. But what will the future hold for Kingpin and D’Onofrio?
Will We See Kingpin in Spider-Man 4?
Kingpin has been a central villain in the Marvel world of characters. His wide-ranging network of thugs and mafia make him one of the most powerful street-level foes Marvel heroes have to face. Even though Echo did not receive as many positive reviews as it expected, people duly appreciated Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin. The actor has played the aforementioned villain in Hawkeye as well, integrating Wilson Fisk into the MCU.
Filming and production for Daredevil: Born Again is in the works and the titular hero will have to fight Kingpin yet again. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actor chatted about what the future holds for Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though D’Onofrio has not been contacted by Marvel or Sony to be a part of any future movies like Spider-Man 4 or Avengers: Secret Wars, he expressed his views on the topic and said,
“I think if the powers that be want that to happen then it will happen, you know? I think there certainly hasn’t been any kind of talk that it’s not gonna happen. I mean, to me that’s the direction that we should go in … But who knows? You know, you get these calls and they’re like, ‘Oh we’re doing this now.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ You know, it’s like that.”
D’Onofrio has previously said that he eventually wants to “beat Spider-Man’s ass” so it’s pretty clear that the actor strongly believes in terrorising Spider-Man’s life next. Actors who get so connected to their character, that they begin to form thoughts and visions for what the character should do next. It adds a layer of authenticity to their work as they truly resonate with the character’s actions.
The actor further shared how his character’s comparison to Thanos delights him and gives him positive affirmation that fans love his work. After Kang’s dismissal as the true villain of the saga, there have been rumours that Kingpin could be the next big villain in the Marvel universe, given his looming connection with most heroes in the new-age Avengers.
Vincent D’Onofrio’s Dream Kingpin Storyline
Given the success of Marvel’s What If…? series, D’Onofrio wants in on the fun as he shares his vision for being a part of the next season of the show. The anthology show on Disney+Hotstar features alternate versions of our beloved Marvel heroes and villains so that we can get a taste of the Multiversal madness while exploring situations that could have been. D’Onofrio added,
“I would love to do, like a, What If…? kind of Fisk story, I would just like to explore him in a, outside of the usual teaming up of villain and superhero. I’d like to see a truly more realistic version, kind of like what they did with the Joker … A more interior approach and you know, 10 times darker than anything we’ve done with him before. You know, exploring that would be really interesting.”
Seems like the actor has some great ideas for the character and fans wish Marvel would be listening. The interview further explores what would happen if Kingpin got bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker or Miles Morales. D’Onofrio hilariously replies that even then Kingpin would be a sinister villain. Fans can’t wait to see Kingpin finally get the attention he deserves as an invincible foe of great intellect without having any supernatural powers.
