The Acolyte: Episode 5’s Seemingly Unintentional Nod to Lindsay Lohan’s Iconic Disney Film Will Blow Every Fan’s Mind
The ever-expanding Star Wars universe is making new waves in the industry with its hit show The Acolyte. Jedis and Siths are back to wreak havoc in the Republic with their opposing views and aspirations. George Lucas’s fictional world has so much to offer to long-time fans of the franchise and they are hanging on to every word, every reference.
The latest episode of The Acolyte harkened back to a very prominent Disney movie that has now become a cult classic. Featuring Lindsay Lohan, the Disney movie contained a very crucial scene that helped Osha and Mae in the latest episode of the Star Wars series.
The Acolyte makes a clever reference to The Parent Trap
The Disney cult classic flick The Parent Trap featured Annie and Hallie, a set of twins who decide on a plan to get their parents back together. They pretend to be each other for the most part of the movie so that they can trick their parents into falling back in love. The Lindsay Lohan classic has been watched and rewatched by fans worldwide. Anyone who had a twin sibling must have dreamed of trying this with their parents.
With The Acolyte’s latest episode, there’s a very cleverly veiled reference to the movie. This is seen when Mae decides to chop off her hair to resemble her sister Osha, who gets knocked out. Mae does so to fool the Jedi Master and ultimately kill him.
While there must have been many such instances where twins switch places in the movie business, the reason why this particular situation feels similar to The Parent Trap lies in the cutting of Mae’s hair.
In the Disney movie as well, Annie has to cut her hair so that she can look like Hallie and do a good job of pretending to be her. This significant and specific scene convinced us that there is some similarity between the two polar opposite works of art.
What happens in The Acolyte episode 5?
The latest episode of The Acolyte has proved to be a turning point for the series. Osha gets confused for Mae and is further suspected to be a murderous assassin. As the story moves ahead, they get to know the true culprit and try to bring her to justice. Osha makes a connection with her twin, Mae, through the Force and thinks she can reason with her.
Ultimately, after the battle between Sol and Qimir is over, the twins are left to their devices. Mae tries to convince Osha to see the truth behind the Jedis and join the Dark side. However, her efforts remain futile as Osha is steadfast in her belief in the Jedis. After Mae knocks Osha out, she fools Sol into her new identity. On the other hand, Qimir finds Osha and takes her with him. The twins swap places and end up in their respective enemy’s camps.
