Spoilers for The Acolyte finale ahead!
Star Wars fans have been excitedly guessing for months who the main villain might be in The Acolyte. Set in the High Republic era, 200 years before the Skywalker saga, the show offers a glimpse into a time when the Jedi were powerful and the Sith were still a mystery. Now, the big season finale of the popular show is finally here, and it does not disappoint.
Not only did the episode deliver a satisfying conclusion to the season’s main storyline, but it also included a major cameo appearance that has sent shockwaves through the fandom. The finale finally provided the answer fans were waiting for, with the surprise appearance serving as a huge nod to a Star Wars prequel movie.
Darth Plagueis Makes His Live-Action Debut in The Acolyte
Darth Plagueis, a famous Sith Lord who mentored Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine), has made his live-action debut in The Acolyte‘s final season. Although, mentioned in George Lucas’ $868 Million flick (via Box Office Mojo) Revenge of the Sith, this is the first time fans will see him on screen.
As the finale of The Acolyte builds to a climax, Qimir (Manny Jacinto) and Osha (Amandla Stenberg) set off from Qimir’s quiet ocean world to find Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and Osha’s sister, Mae (also Stenberg). Soon, a mysterious figure steps out from the shadows.
This figure, a hooded being with long fingers, a flat nose, and piercing red-yellowish eyes, is clearly Darth Plagueis, a Sith Lord of the Muun species. His brief appearance left a powerful impression on the scene.
What Does This Mean for the Star Wars Universe?
Darth Plagueis joining The Acolyte brings lots of exciting ideas. It’s not known what exactly he’ll do, but having him around means the show’s story could get even more interesting than we thought.
It’s not known why Plagueis appeared on Qimir’s unknown ocean world. Does it mean he is Qimir’s Sith Master? Maybe he could be pulling the strings in The Acolyte, secretly controlling everything. Or maybe he’s after Qimir, possibly to get rid of competition. Nothing can be said for sure as of now.
Plagueis showing up could mean we’ll learn more about the Sith’s past in upcoming seasons. Plagueis was famous for his Force skills, especially his power to control midi-chlorians—the microscopic lifeforms that are believed to affect how strong someone is with the Force. That would be just as amazing.
With so many questions unanswered, fans are left eager for what’s next. The series has successfully introduced a major new character to the Star Wars universe and set the stage for an even more exciting second season.
