This director Jim Jarmusch’s latest take on the horror genre; he made a film on vampires in 2013, titled Only Lovers Left Alive. The film starred MCU star Tom Hiddleston as a musician who’s really depressed and also happens to be an aged vampire. The film shows the world contaminated and corrupted to the extent that even vampires face trouble finding a good meal. This was an interesting use of the whole mythical vampire dynamic, reframing vamps as being intelligent, insightful and cultural. It also made them somewhat “human”, as they face the same personal and existential conflicts as any other human. Jarmusch used the genre as a device to examine the society, something that’s really rare to find.

Not since the early days of George Romero’s Dead films, zombies have since been used as a metaphor for the pitfalls of the modern-day world. Jarmusch’s twist of including zombies still aping their behaviour from life but all of it looks like a great way towards a deeper subtext about how aware and critical are people today. The Dead Don’t Die looks like it has a strong hook to hang onto it’s funny moments, as there seems to be numerous zombie celebrities cameos. There will also be some Ninja/Samurai inspired-action in The Dead Don’t Die.
