The Fate of DC’s Lost Cosmic God Revealed – Batman And Superman’s Dark Multiverse Mission
The DC Multiverse, as it is quite evident, has gained much importance in recent years, with most of the threats that have challenged the main DC Universe after they came up from the beyond, and rephrasing reality over a series of epic conflicts. While the multiverse was restored by the heroes triumphantly during the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, there are still more eminent cosmic threats that continue to plan their next steps from the spaces concealed between universes. The Authority was joined by Batman, after which, the fate of one cosmic god that navigated the multiverse as a de facto caretaker is let out, with the tragic return of Tempus Fuginaut.
Who Is Tempus Fuginaut?
Tempus Fuginaut, introduced in the comic Sideways #1 in 2018, belongs to a race of omnipotent beings — the Fuginauts — who are tasked with averting intrusions between multiple universes. The task, specifically assigned to Tempus was ensuring that the prime DC Universe was not taken over by the Dark Multiverse. During the comic book miniseries Flash Forward, Tempus teams up with Wally West to prevent further Dark Multiverse incursions in the lead-up to Death Metal, post which, Tempus’ sad fate is revealed in Batman/Superman: Authority Special #1, by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Trevor Hairsine, Ben Templesmith, Jonathan Glapion, Scott Hanna, Rain Beredo and Tom Napolitano.
In the wake of Death Metal, and the defeat of the Batman Who Laughs, a new force has risen to be reckoned with in the Dark Multiverse — the Empire of Shadows. Carrying on the fearsome legacy of Ra’s al Ghul, the authority has conquered all in its universe and is now determined to rule the others as well. To that end, Tempus is found by the Empire of Shadows in the space between worlds and is reduced to a ruined husk, his butchered remains being used as a gadget to travel to other universes.
Batman And Superman’s Dark Multiverse Mission
After learning how great a threat is posed by the Empire of Shadows to the DCU, Batman, Superman, and the Authority form a team for a preemptive strike. It’s a very dangerous and courageous mission into the heart of the Dark Multiverse to collect the remains of t and return home, that too effectively, leaving the Empire of Shadows restricted to its own world.
In the aftermath, Batman and the Authority very safely return back to their own world, and the Empire of Shadows is convinced not to carry on its quest for multiversal authority by the use of Fuginauts. Instead, it is vowed by the Empire’s head to proceed resolutely, with a rematch in the cards against the Authority, as he and his children find other ways to conquer alternate universes.
While the Empire of Shadows was dealt with a major setback by Batman and the Authority, and they also discovered the tragic fate of Tempus Fuginaut, an inevitable showdown — the superheroes against new villains from the Dark Multiverse — is seemed to have only been delayed.
