“The first 40-50 mins are f**king brilliant but…”: Even Hardcore Zack Snyder Fans are Realizing the Glaring Flaw in Rebel Moon
Zack Snyder is one of the most proficient directors in the Hollywood filmmaking industry. He made his feature film debut in 2004 with the remake of the horror film Dawn of the Dead from a screenplay written by none other than the DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. His very next project was the 2006 fantasy war film 300 which turned out to be a box office success.
Over the years, Zack Snyder has worked on some of the best projects of all time and is prominently known for the creation of the widely known Snyderverse. Despite all that he has achieved, his most recently released movie Rebel Moon has neither impressed the audience nor the critics.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Leaves Everyone Unimpressed
Zack Snyder’s filmmaking career reached new heights with the release of the 2013 superhero movie Man of Steel, which kickstarted the DC Extended Universe. He went on to direct other DCEU movies like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was a huge commercial success.
In 2021, it was announced that Snyder was working on the movie Rebel Moon for Netflix. The movie was heavily inspired by Star Wars and legendary director, Akira Kurosawa‘s work. It is an epic space opera which is also known as Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. It was released on Netflix on December 21, 2023, and Snyder fans are not too impressed as one of them wrote on X:
“Rebel Moon is so frustrating because the first 40-50 mins are fucking brilliant but then the nosedive it takes afterwards is insane.”
Rebel Moon is so frustrating because the first 40-50 mins are fucking brilliant but then the nosedive it takes afterwards is insane and it’s all due to the fact that 1/3rds of the film is just not fucking there man like WHY NETFLIX WHYYYYY pic.twitter.com/mGtJgwSRVH

That’s kind of how I feel. The first 40 minutes are legitimately grim and well done.
I am excited to get the novelization, as it’s based on the directors cut

Dawg, I couldn’t make it past the first hour

I promise you the first 40 minutes are not that good

Nothing was brilliant about that movie. The actresses and actors were great. The story/plot was so terrible I could come up with a better one in 20 minutes. Dude can’t keep relying on cool slomo action shots that 16 YOs with iPhones could pull off

The actresses and actors were all great. The story was absolute shit it’s actually unbelievable. I could come up with a better story in 20 minutes. How does Snyder still have a job. People lose their shit over the slow mo action shots that every 10 year old with an iPhone could do

In the movie, Motherworld rules a fictional galaxy. Motherworld’s army the Imperium wants to attack the farming colony on a moon called Veldt, but a former Imperium soldier named Kora embarks on a journey to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to go against the army before they go to Veldt.
Zack Snyder on How Star Wars Inspired Rebel Moon
As already mentioned, Star Wars was a great source of inspiration for Rebel Moon. The question that arises here is how the former led to the creation of this new movie. During an interview with Screen Rant, Zack Snyder said:
“The eleven-year-old me fell in love with Star Wars. And then, as you grow up, I’ve been talking a lot about ’77 to ’87; that range of movies. That ten-year window for me was really influential because, from when you’re 11 years old to when you’re a sophomore in college, that’s your sweet spot where you get shaped.”
Snyder went on to say that the Star Wars films are what inspired this epic space film. There is also a director’s cut of this first part which sounds more promising than the one released.
