The Marvels is Now Streaming on Disney Plus and Fans Still Won’t Stop Trolling it
The Marvels was one of the MCU’s colossal failures that was unexpected even for Marvel. This high-budget production, which starred Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, made sure if superhero fatigue was not a thing before the film, it would soon be. The movie, made on a budget of $274.8 million, underperformed severely and managed to gross only $199 million worldwide.
The Marvels is now officially streaming on Disney Plus and when it was announced on social media, netizens could not stop trolling it mercilessly.
“We Don’t Care:” Fans Take To Twitter To Mercilessly Troll The Marvels After Its Arrival On Disney Plus
The Marvels ended its box-office journey only after four weeks, becoming the lowest-grossing MCU movie of all time. While pondering what went wrong with the movie, the studio claimed that the SAG-AFTRA strike did not allow for proper promotion. However, Marvel maniacs do not need heavy promotion to know when a high-budget production like this is going to drop. Even the trailer for The Marvels created enough buzz.

However, it failed terribly to connect with the audience, which has been an ongoing trend with Marvel after the likes of She-Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, etc. Fans brutally trolled The Marvels for being so poorly done for a movie made on a budget of almost $275 million. It has finally been made available for streaming on Disney+ and hardcore Marvel fans did not let go of the opportunity to show their wrath by meme-ing the heck out of the movie when Film Updates posted about it on X. The film has an uneven editing and early pacing that makes it hard to keep track of the characters' movement.

Why do I feel like I am the only one no longer excited about the superhero movie genre? IMO, they are just beating a dead horse at this point.

It seems like Marvel, a franchise that was almost invincible before, is not so anymore and The Marvels serves as a prime example as to why. So, what went wrong with the movie? Let’s find out.
Things That Went Wrong With The Marvels
To address the superhuman elephant in the room, Brie Larson’s acting has seen better days. The Oscar-winning actress is undoubtedly phenomenal and has done great work in movies and TV shows like Room or Lessons in Chemistry. However, her performance in The Marvels leaves a lot to be desired. Throughout the whole movie, she seems stiff as a brick, with hardly 1.5 expressions in the 1hr 45 min movie.
If one thinks Larson is the biggest problem of the movie, it stands no chance against the villain of the movie, Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn. A good superhero movie needs a good villain, without whom the heroes would not shine. The Infinity Saga would not have been so earth-shattering for many had it not been for the big bad—Thanos. In this case, one might go out on a limb and say that the villain of The Marvels might have been a tad bit boring.
While talking about villains, the greatest villain of this movie was its script. It felt like an AI trying to generate human feelings through a script. While the Ms Marvel bits were the saving grace (and quite hilarious), the initial conflict between Carol and Monica felt forced, and their easy reconciliation with almost no struggle at all felt a bit laughable. Most of the jokes fall flat and the timing is awful.
Last but not least, what exactly is at stake here? There is no sense of urgency or drama in the movie. The audience found it pretty hard to feel any real tension. The Marvels, at the end of the day, is an empty shell.
