According to The Witcher star Henry Cavill, fans can expect  Geralt of Rivia to embrace his newly found parental role in Season 2 of the Netflix series.

Henry Cavil recently spoke in an interview regarding some changes to the character of Geralt in the upcoming season and suggested that the wandering  witcher would be adopting a a paternal role.
He went on to say that, “While he hasn’t necessarily been someone who craved children, he does take quite naturally to being a protector.” Season 1 ended with the character assuming the role of a guardian to his Child of Surprise Princess Cirilla, a bond which was long in the making due to their entwined destinies.

The character’s nature as a protector was teased throughout entire Season 1, which was based on the series of short stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski in The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.
Considering that while Geralt was somewhat reluctant to get involved, he still found himself coming to rescue of various characters including Jaskier and Yennefer. But coming to his bond with Ciri, it came to Geralt without a thought asking to be rewarded with the Law of Surprise after rescuing Ciri’s parents.
Both the characters are now tied together by their destiny, which the series presents as an inescapable and very powerful force.

Henry Cavill went on to comment on the complexity of his character and stated that there was much more to him than his annoyed and grumpy exterior. Henry went on to add saying that, ” What I’m trying to do is bring [out] more of that intellectual, philosophical, wise Geralt.”

Gerlat is more than just a mere monster slaver and in the books, the Geralt is depicted as more of a thinker who operates by his own personal code. Hints of the same were also shown during the Netflix series, such as his refusal to kill creatures that showed intelligence and were thus potentially open to peaceful solutions.

Considering all this, Geralt’s evolving role as a parental figure to Ciri who lost the rest of her family in Cintra during Season 1, should be no surprise for the fans.
Season 2 is to be adapting the events of Blood of Elves and is set to premiere on December 17th on Netflix.
