The Witcher Season 2: Shocking Things That Happened On The Sets
The Witcher Season 2 is one of Netflix’s most anticipated original series. There were bizarre incidents from the sets of The Witcher Season 2 every fan must know about.
Henry Cavill Discovered He’s A Sword-Fighting Prodigy
If you did not live under a rock, you would know by now that Henry Cavill is a big time nerd. To be precise, he is a big time fan of the medieval fantasy genre. That is why he was such a hit in The Witcher as Geralt of Rivia. While shooting for season1 of the show as going on, Cavill had many sword combat scenes. He executed them with style. he was so naturally good at it that he even recommended the armorers to make some brilliant hilt design changes. The actor was extraordinarily good at nailing down the art of medieval bladed combat. So much so that medieval martial arts expert Gregory Mele gave him his official seal of approval. Apart from sword-fighting, Cavill is also a gaming enthusiast, having been an avid fan of World of Warcraft. He also made an entire gaming PC rig for himself from scratch.
The Witcher Season 2 Had To Work Without Cavill
What is The Witcher without its titular star? Sadly Netflix had to deal with this exact conundrum. Deadline earlier reported that Henry Cavill was once not a part of production of The Witcher Season 2 for a short while. And that was because of a minor hamstring injury. It could have potentially doomed the entire production had it been more than that. Cavill just took a short sick leave and came back to the sets later on. Henry Cavill being Henry Cavill, made the most out of this situation too, according to People:
“”When I look back, I realize, yes, it was a hard time,” Henry Cavill said. “I think one of the skills I’ve picked up over the years is just forging ahead regardless of difficulty or hard work or trials and tribulations. So when the hamstring injury came, I tried to look at the silver lining. It was like, ‘Ok. I was working insane hours and it was exhausting and I now physically can’t work because I’m on crutches.’ So I was focusing more on taking the time off and going, how can I best heal myself?”
The Pandemic Made Things infinitely More Difficult For The Witcher Season 2
The Witcher Season 2 was not the only show whose production suffered because of the COVID delays. But at one point of time, it did have it the worst. Multiple crew members from the sets of the Witcher Season 2 were tested positive, according to Deadline. There were other conventional delays as well that halted the shooting. Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer in the show, said this during an interview with The Gamer:
“It wasn’t [easy]. There were parts that were easier than being in the real world because we were in a space which we were protected in. We have an onsite testing center, and I felt safer inside the studios than I did out. In one aspect it was fine. In another, it lasted a year and a half for goodness sake. To sustain yourself through lockdown is hard, but to sustain a character and bring the utmost respect, etiquette, and everything else to a set so everyone can do their jobs fully … because it’s all coming from you, it can be quite tiring. But you have to pinch yourself and remember, ‘I’m playing Yennefer of Vengerberg’.”
