SUMMARY
  • Disney acquired Marvel back in 2009 when the latter had only released the movie Iron Man in 2008.
  • Some fans are claiming that Disney's acquisition of Marvel has led to the latter's downfall, and they could not be further from the truth.
  • If anything, Disney has constantly helped Marvel become one of the most successful franchises in the entirety of Hollywood.

Opinions might be biased but facts are always facts. Some of the Marvel fans need to be a little more pragmatic before expressing their dissatisfaction towards one of the best media companies of all time.

American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate, The Walt Disney Company, owns the hearts of millions of people from all around the world irrespective of their age group. From Mickey Mouse and The Lion King to Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame, the company has established itself both in the animation world and the Hollywood industry.

Some of the fans over the web have expressed their dissatisfaction with Disney controlling Marvel Studios. According to them, Disney is responsible for Marvel’s downfall. However, on logical grounds, these claims are anything but true.

The moment facts are taken into consideration, all these opinions begin to look vague. Here is what some of them had to say:

The company is largely known for being the backbone behind Marvel’s profound success. Marvel Studios would have been on the verge of extinction if it was not for Disney. A fan even pointed out that fans got The Avengers only because Disney offered strong financial backing. The X user wrote:

Not just The Avengers, Disney also produced MCU movies like Black Panther, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. As of July 2023, Marvel is the highest-grossing movie franchise with a total revenue of $29.55 billion and a huge round of applause behind such a tremendous success goes to Disney only.

According to Variety, CEO Bob Iger announced that instead of four movies per year, Disney will only stream three Marvel movies a year. The decision was to focus on quality rather than on quantity. On the same note, Iger also confirmed that instead of four TV series spin-offs per year, Disney is in favor of only two.

Further, Disney also established Marvel Studios Parliament where a group of long-time executives were meant to help in elevating each other’s projects. Disney also believes in canceling projects that it predicts will not have a decent performance in the theaters. This way, Disney makes sure that Marvel never faces any kind of criticism for poor releases.

All these efforts are proof enough that Disney has played a crucial role in MCU’s grandeur. Marvel grew under the production company and will proceed to do so even if a few bumps on the road are unavoidable. Disney might have made some mistakes in the recent past, but that does not erase all the good that it did for Marvel.
