There is no quarreling over the unparalleled success of the HBO show Game of Thrones. Nobody was prepared to witness and thereby digest the sheer grandeur of the show that kept pushing the limit, episode after episode. Filled with bloodlust, betrayal, and gory battles, the showrunners did a great job of bringing George R.R. Martin’s world to life.
Game of Thrones did not just put the channel on the proverbial map but also shot many key actors to global fame. Various cast members credit the show with their shot to success eventually opening more doors for them in the industry.
George R.R. Martin shares a Quibble with Game of Thrones showrunners
The maker of the fictional universe that now enjoys a horde of fans across the world, George R.R. Martin, has certain quibbles with the people who brought the show to life on the silver screen. The author is known to give his literary input wherever necessary and has thus made both shows Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon into humongous successes.
In a resurfaced video, he shared with the audience how certain scenes and moments did not make it to the show that could have potentially given viewers more context on the overarching narrative. Martin shared,
It was the missing scenes that weren’t there at all. I watched the show, and frequently I would find myself thinking oh okay now they’re getting up to this scene that’s really good. They didn’t have that scene. They skipped over that scene and some of them were scenes that I had seen the actors do in auditions they had been scenes that actually had helped the actors get their roles. So I would have loved to have two more hours to have a 12-episode season instead of 10 um and of course to have you know an extra $50 million but who of us wouldn’t want an extra $50 million?
Martin’s quibble is valid as the show seemed to have rushed through some aspects that demanded extra clarity and additional screen time. Especially the last season of Game of Thrones deserved at least 12 episodes as Martin mentions. This would have helped fans get a better understanding of Daenerys’s mindset rather than paint her as a villain in the last few crucial moments of the story.
George R.R. Martin’s Earnings from Game of Thrones
Martin jokes that an additional 2 episodes in Game of Thrones seasons could have made him $50 million richer. At the same time, it’s not as if the show didn’t already make him rich beyond compare. Based on his fantastical story A Song of Ice and Fire, the HBO show broke all records to become one of the best television shows of modern times.
According to Parade, Martin earned approximately $15 million per Game of Thrones season. Therefore, the author earned about $200 million from the entire run of eight seasons of Game of Thrones. This is on top of his book sales revenue which comes up to about $10 million per year. Moreover, the author is not done publishing books since the most awaited end to his series with the book The Winds of Winter is yet to be released.
