Isis Naija Gaston, aka Ice Spice, became super famous in no time. Since the viral success of her breakout hit Munch, Spice has collaborated with big names like PinkPantheress and Taylor Swift.

One of Spice’s early key supporters in her career was Nicki Minaj. They collaborated on two songs shortly after the Bronx native’s big break, including a remix of her track Princess Diana and Barbie World for the Barbie movie soundtrack.

However, a recent leak from her ex-friend has cast a shadow over her relationship with the Super Bass star. The messages seemingly show Spice dissing Minaj.

A Collaboration Between Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice Turns Sour

The controversy arises from leaked text messages supposedly between Ice Spice and her ex-friend. In the screenshots of texts with ‘Isis’ Second Phone,’ the 24-year-old rapper criticizes Nicki Minaj for trying to get a bigger share of the publishing rights for their joint song Barbie World on the Barbie movie soundtrack.

It was revealed that Spice wasn’t fully on board with having Minaj on the track initially, but later agreed. Trouble started when the 41-year-old reportedly pushed for a larger share of the publishing deal. In the messages, Spice blasts Roman Zolanski as “ungrateful and delusional.” The texts read:

“[The song] is an opportunity I brought [to Minaj because the] Barbie [producers] invited me to do it alone, but since that’s her brand, I invited her on, and she doesn’t even see that as me bringing her something. She’s kinda like my mom: ungrateful and delusional. I cut her off by the way. [I’m] not speaking to her ‘til January.”

The question is: Do the leaked text messages depict a real beef between Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice? The texts are still not proven to be real because Spice hasn’t said anything about them, and neither has Nicki the Ninja.

The team behind the Barbie soundtrack told Forbes, “We always wanted Nicki Minaj.” Even, the Oscar-winning music producer Mark Ronson wanted the Trinidadian-born singer to be part of the soundtrack right from the beginning.

Both Ronson and Greta Gerwig saw Minaj as an obvious and ideal choice for their dream list of potential collaborators, given her longstanding connection with the Barbie brand.

But the alleged beef between the two rap stars split the fans. The Barbz are upset with what Spice said about the Rap Queen, even though that’s not the real truth. Check out some fan reactions:

It’s unclear whether Spice or Minaj will speak out about the situation, but the leaked texts have definitely affected their past collaboration. Spice has just dropped a remix of her song Fisherrr and is getting ready to launch her new album later in the year.
