John Krasinski has been in show business for more than two decades and has appeared in numerous movies and shows. He is most famous for his portrayal of the character Jim Halpert in the NBC series The Office which ran for nine seasons between 2005 and 2013. The series mostly received positive reviews during its run.

John Krasinski was considering quitting acting when he was hired for The Office because he was doubtful that he would be able to establish a career in the field. Luckily, he had chemistry with Jenna Fischer’s character Pam who was also there to audition, so he was hired for the role. He refused to do one particular scene in the series which could have altered its entire trajectory.

John Krasinski once revealed that he refused to do a makeout scene with Cathy Simms in the series. Cathy was a temporary replacement for Pan who was on maternity leave at the time. While on a business trip to Florida, Cathy tries to seduce Jim into hooking up with her. This is where the writers wished to incorporate a kissing scene.

During an episode of The Office Deep Dive with Brian BaumgartnerKrasinski revealed how he was against doing the makeout scene, saying:

“We were what, in season 5 or 6 by the time that I was in that motel with that other girl and stuff like that. And that’s the only time I remember putting — whatever, ‘put my foot down,’ not really — that was the only time I was very much against because he was saying ‘You’re going to actually make out with her in this scene.’”

The Jack Ryan star said that this was the only time he was not on the same page as the show’s creators. Paul Lieberstein had then told Krasinski that he would have to do it but there was no heat to it. The scene did not happen at the end.

Such was also the case for The Office but John Krasinski’s refusal to go through with it might have saved it from getting destroyed.

In the same interview on The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner, Kransinski said:

“They [Fans] are so dedicated, we have shown such great respect to them — there is a level of messing with them that you’ve done, like in a great way. You’ve messed with them by the whole kiss happening too early. And I think there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back.”

The A Quiet Place director believed that showing Jim cheating might be way too much for the fans. He also claimed that there was no bad blood between him and the creators due to this disagreement.
