Things Get Worse For MCU as Jonathan Majors’ Only Marvel Movie Might Win a Razzie Award
Jonathan Majors cannot seem to catch a break, as his only Marvel movie is now up for Razzie Award nominations. The uber-controversial Golden Raspberry Award celebrates everything worst in cinema, a sort of parody of the award circuit in Hollywood. The Razzies nominations were unveiled on Monday and it marks the first Marvel Studios nomination for this fateful award.
Even Jonathan Majors’s stupendous performance as Kang the Conqueror cannot seem to have saved Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as it is up for not one, not two, but four nominations from the Raspberry Awards -Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor for both Michael Douglas and Bill Murray, and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel.
Marvel Studios Gets First Razzie Nomination Amidst Jonathan Majors Crisis
After getting almost obliterated at the box office, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now getting the fruits of its mediocrity by being awarded multiple Razzie nominations. Previously, projects attached to the MCU like Sony’s Morbius have been up for the Razzie nod. However, Quantumania marks the first movie out of Marvel Studios to be tainted like this.

According to Joanna Robinson, the writer of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, executives at Marvel Studios were shocked when the poor reviews poured in like someone had kicked a hornet’s nest (via. ComicBook.com)
“[Marvel Studios] is aware of what’s happening to their brand. My understanding, having talked to some people, is that Quantumania really shook them, and I’m sure Secret Invasion shook them further, but Quantumania really shook them because they felt like they had something good. Because they all internally thought, ‘Everyone’s gonna love this.’ And then they put it out and people didn’t. And then they were like, ‘Oh no, our internal barometer is not attuned to what people want anymore.’ With Quantumania, they were like, ‘We put out a banger.’ And then that’s not how a lot of people felt.”

It is also a huge blow to Jonathan Majors, who delivered the performance of a lifetime in Quantumania. Initially, Marvel had no plans to put all their eggs in the basket for Kang the Conqueror. However, after seeing his performance in Loki and especially in Quantumania, Majors was responsible for massively steering the direction of the MCU in his direction regarding Phase 5 and Phase 6. Marvel had to ultimately drop Majors and their plan to establish him as the main villain of the multiverse saga concluding in Avengers: Secret Wars due to serious domestic abuse charges against him.
Jonathan Majors Faces Setback After Searchlight Pulls Out From His Upcoming Movie Magazine Dreams
According to a THR exclusive, Searchlight has dropped the rights to Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams after Jonathan Majors was convicted of his assault charges. A year earlier, the specialty arm of Walt Disney Studios had acquired the movie at the Sundance Film Festival. However, Majors had a run-in with the law and was arrested for assault only a month after the movie was acquired.
Searchlight has officially removed the movie from its release calendar ahead of Majors’ trial. The actor has faced severe career fallout, with each production house dropping him like a fly. Marvel was among the first ones to drop Majors’ as soon as the allegation arose. Lionsgate dropped the Dennis Rodman feature 48 Hours in Vegas, which is now looking for a new star and a new production house.
