“This is definitely not canon to the MCU”: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Does One Thing Absolutely Right Despite All the Fan Hate
- Some fans are disappointed by the announcement of 'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' at D23.
- They have long awaited 'Spider-Man '98' instead of this series, following the huge success of 'X-Men '97'.
- But the series nailed one thing by casting Hudson Thames as Peter-Two and Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn.
At the recent Disney D23 Expo, Marvel fans were thrilled about the announcement of the new animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The series offers a new take on Peter Parker’s story, showing a different relationship between Peter-Two and Norman Osborn compared to the MCU.
However, as the hype grows, some fans are also split on the idea. Still, despite this, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man managed to do one thing right: choosing a great cast!
A Familiar Voice for the Web-Slinger in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
The new series is getting flak because fans were really hoping for Spider-Man ’98 instead. After the huge success of X-Men ’97, everyone was crossing their fingers for Spider-Man ’98 next. But Marvel’s choice to make Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man first has thrown a wrench in those plans.
Lol so this is definitely NOT canon to the MCU as originally planned

Marvel has made a ton of bad Spiderman cartoons recently, spiderman ultimated, and then that Marvel Spiderman, why another one, I thought this was Tom Holland, but if it's just another spiderman cartoon, why do it, why don't you bring back Spiderman from the 90s, I don't get it

But fans can still look forward to one great thing in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Marvel has a knack for picking fantastic actors, and one of the biggest pieces of news from the D23 event was the voice casting of Hudson Thames as Peter Parker.
Fans might remember Thames from his role as a Peter Parker variant in the third season of What If…?. Now, he’ll be bringing his voice back to the beloved superhero in this series, too. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is also known as Spider-Man or Peter-Two.
He is an alternate version of Peter Parker from Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy who appears in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Thames also voiced Spider-Man in the short Avengers: Quantum Encounter, which was made for guests at the Worlds of Marvel restaurant on the Disney Wish cruise ship.
A Star-Studded Cast in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Colman Domingo, from Fear the Walking Dead, will voice Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin. Showrunner Jeff Trammell hinted at D23 that Norman Osborn might be a bit of a troublemaker. It sounds like this version of the villain will be more complex and morally ambiguous than usual. He said (via CBR):
Norman has good intentions, but Norman has never embodied the hero role in the way that Tony [Stark] has… the methods he’s sharing with Peter may not turn out in everyone’s best interest.
Alongside Thames and Domingo, the series features a great voice cast. Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil from his hit Netflix show. Other voice actors include Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Hugh Dancy, Kari Wahlgren, Zeno Robinson, and Paul F. Tompkins.
Fans will have to wait until November 2, 2024, to see if Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man lives up to the hype when it premieres on Disney+.
