Tom Cruise’s Co-star Who’s Set to Star in ‘The Office’ Spin-Off Did One Thing By Reaching Out to Steve Carell That Even Lady Gaga Failed to Do With Joker 2
A new series set in the same world as The Office is coming to Peacock. The show will focus on a documentary crew filming a struggling newspaper. It has already been picked up for a full season and is set to begin production in July. Fans are curious if Steve Carell, the beloved Michael Scott, will join the new show.
While the American actor isn’t returning, Domhnall Gleeson has been cast in a lead role. You might recognize him from American Made as Tom Cruise’s co-star. Details about his character are secret for now. So, although Carell isn’t part of the cast, he did give some advice to Gleeson for the new series because the Irish actor reached out to him first. This is a move Lady Gaga didn’t make when preparing for Joker 2.
Domhnall Gleeson Reaches Out to Steve Carell for New Show – An Attempt Lady Gaga Failed at
According to Steve Carell, when he appeared on TODAY, Domhnall Gleeson reached out to him to ask for his thoughts on the project. Carell told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie:
He called me up and (asked), ‘Well, should I do this?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I mean it’s Greg Daniels. You’ll have a ball.
Carell, who worked with Gleeson on The Patient, believes that the actor will be successful in the new series. “I think he’s gonna be great,” he said. This positive interaction contrasts with the news about Lady Gaga‘s role as Harley Quinn in the new Joker sequel. Even though Margot Robbie, who played Harley before, isn’t in it, she’s totally supportive of Gaga taking on the role.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, when asked what she thinks about the pop-star playing the character, Robbie said, “I think she’s going to do an amazing job. I am so excited.” But it seems Gaga hasn’t talked to Robbie herself yet, just like Gleeson did.
What is The Office Sequel About?
The new series is led by Greg Daniels from The Office and Michael Koman from Nathan for You. It isn’t a reboot of The Office. Instead, it follows the same documentary crew as they move on to their next project: filming a Midwestern newsroom. A press release from Peacock reads:
The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
The original The Office, which ran from 2005 to 2013, still has a special place in fans’ hearts. Its popularity has only grown on streaming platforms because of its timeless humor. With relatable characters, witty dialogue, and those cringe-worthy yet lovable moments, it has become a cultural icon.
The upcoming sequel/spin-off is a great chance to revisit this beloved world with new characters and a new setting. Steve Carell won’t be returning, but he supports the new cast.
Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to release on October 4, 2024!
