Charles Roven expresses his desire to produce Tom Holland’s famous action-adventure tale, Uncharted.  In an interview with a Hollywood Reporter,  Roven was asked if he had any interest in Uncharted sequel due to the film’s box office success during the pandemic.

“Oh yeah!” Roven said. “We had a really good time with that movie. The fans liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game liked the movie. So we are definitely looking to make another one of those.”

Ruben Fleisher’s Uncharted was released in 2022. Like the game, the movie also received positive responses from the audience. Even after attaining comparable success, the movie  leaves the audience with a question about Uncharted 2. Despite being released during a difficult time for movie theaters due to the pandemic, the movie earned $407 million at the box office. With a history of directing blockbusters such as Venom and Zombieland, Fleisher delves into the story of Nathen Drake seeking lost treasure from Ferdinand Magellan’s famous expedition around the world.

Uncharted Game

The Uncharted game series is a critically acclaimed and immensely popular action-adventure video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, which also created the popular series The Last of Us. The Uncharted franchise dates back to 2007. There are a total of four main games in the series, along with several spin-offs and extensions. The series primarily follows the adventures of Nathan Drake, who sets out to find treasures and fight villains. The Uncharted action-adventure game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released in 2007 and came out on PlayStation 3. The final collection was released on PlayStation in 2022.

The Uncharted movie stars Tom Holland as the affable adventurer Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg portraying his trusted companion, Victor “Sully” Sullivan.  The duo in the movie is shown as the younger self of the initial  Uncharted game. Thus, the movie serves as a prequel to the game series. It’s curious to know whether the upcoming movie will depict events from the series’ inaugural game, provided it gets the green light, of course.

According to the report, despite reviving its sequel, the online distributor Sony is too busy to confirm, but the lead actors, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, are optimistic about the project. He also asserts that the Uncharted film will address a longstanding challenge in Hollywood in successfully adapting video games to the big screen. He says,

“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games,” Holland told IGN. “So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”

Moreover, even after hitting a success of $407 million, and since the production companies do care about the movies that could make money, the possibility of Uncharted 2 is always on the table. The sequel of the movie has not yet been officially announced, and actor Tom Holland is currently taking a year off from acting and is expected to return to the role of Spider-Man, considering the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Currently, we can anticipate Uncharted 2, perhaps if it comes to fruition, the movie would portray slightly older Nathan Drake who is more at ease with his daring journey.
