  • 'Vikings' attracted millions of viewers, but no Season 7 was needed.

For six seasons of Vikings, we cheered for Ragnar Lothbrok and his fierce sons as they fought battles and explored new lands. But then, bam! The series ended without a Season 7. Fans were left hanging, wondering if they’d ever see Bjorn, Ivar, and the gang again, but that didn’t happen.

The saga isn’t entirely over, thanks to Vikings: Valhalla. It picks up over a century later, showcasing new heroes like Leif Erikson. But let’s break down why we won’t get that seventh season and what went down in the original show!

1. Why Vikings Season 7 Didn’t Happen

So, why didn’t we get a seventh season? It’s not because the ratings tanked or people lost interest. Showrunner Michael Hirst decided it was time to wrap things up creatively. He told Variety back in 2019 that he always knew how he wanted the story to end.

Hirst felt he’d fully explored the saga of Ragnar and his sons after six seasons and 89 episodes. And honestly, he nailed it! By the time Season 6 rolled around, most of the original characters were gone, and their stories were pretty much tied up.

The final episodes gave us a satisfying conclusion to the raids, adventures, and dreams of exploring new lands. So, with a heavy heart, Hirst decided to hang up his Viking boots.

2. The Cast and Plot of Vikings

Travis Fimmel played the legendary Ragnar, while Katheryn Winnick brought the fierce Lagertha to life. Clive Standen was Rollo, the loyal brother, and Gustaf Skarsgård played Floki, the wild and unpredictable friend.

These characters made us laugh, cry, and cheer! The plot follows Ragnar’s rise to power as a Viking leader, filled with thrilling battles and adventures from his sons as they sought riches and glory. The show blended history with exciting storytelling, making it a real hit!

3. Viewership of Vikings

Now, let’s chat numbers. According to The Washington Post, Vikings kicked off strong, pulling in six million viewers in the US alone! It was a huge deal, dominating the charts, especially among the 18-49 crowd. The premiere in Canada also rocked with over a million viewers.

The first season kept a solid average of 942,000 fans tuning in every week (via TV,eh?). But as the series went on, the focus shifted, and viewers noticed a slight dip in interest. Still, fans stuck around for the epic drama and fierce battles, proving they couldn’t get enough of those rugged Norsemen!
