Commercial director Simon McQuoid is all set to return for his directorial debut soon and we just can’t wait for it. The director is known for his commercials for Halo, PlayStation, Beats by Dr Dre and Range Rover. The project will see James Wan serving as a producer. The pre-production on the film will kick start this very month with the principal photography starting from later in 2019 in Australia.

The film will be opening against Sony’s Master of the Universe film starring Noah Centinho. Mortal Kombat is a really popular video game franchise and it has seen a couple of film adaptations in the past. One of it came back in the year 1995 and is still held as one of the best video game adaptations of all times. After the sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation got received poorly, the franchise went out of business and has never been adapted ever since.

The Mortal Kombat franchise started catching fire around 2010 when a web-short titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth came out. It came from screenwriter Orien Uziel and it got the web series a lot of popularity. He was later asked by New Line Cinema to make a script for Mortal Kombat reboot.

We don’t any plot details of the film yet, although it has been teased that this adaptation of Mortal Kombat will be an R-rated version of Avengers. A recent draft has been reportedly penned by Greg Russo.

The casting details for the new Mortal Kombat film haven’t been released yet although Joel Edgerton was previously rumoured to play Kano in the new film. Nothing has been confirmed though.
