“We all know she was talking about Taylor”: Billie Eilish Clears the Air About Taylor Swift Criticism But Her Statement Might Be Another Shade Thrown at the Grammy Winner
The recent feather in Taylor Swift’s cap was achieving a milestone sales number in vinyl records. But it seems like other artists didn’t respond well to this feat and even found ways to taint her record. Speaking of, Billie Eilish recently claimed that vinyl records are a huge waste of money and harmful to the environment. She criticized the artists who release records in a myriad of packaging to boost their sales numbers. The internet did not take long to analyze and respond to her views.
Billie Eilish Calls Out Artists for Releasing Wasteful Vinyl Records
In a recent interview with Billboard regarding her work in the sustainability space, Oscar-winner Billie Eilish sparked a controversy with her opinions. She threw shade at artists who released different vinyl packaging to up their sales numbers and make their album chart at number 1. Eilish shared that she released 100% recycled black vinyl and pays close attention to its impact on the environment. She added,
“I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable — and then it’s some of the biggest artists in the world making f–king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more. It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money — and it’s all your favorite artists doing that sh-t.”
Swifties did not take long to figure out that this was a dig at their icon Taylor Swift, who recently achieved record sales number in vinyl records, bringing the era back in style. The pop star’s fans bombarded Eilish with comments to protect Swift and her legacy. It appeared as though Eilish saw the opportunity to get on to the Swift bandwagon and be a part of the burgeoning debate. Her opinions sparked outrage as fans rebuked Eilish for singling out Swift.
Billie Eilish Clarifies Her Comments on Sustainability
After seeing the intense debate surrounding her comments, Eilish took to Instagram to clarify the conversation. However, a subtle detail in her statement made fans certain of the fact that Eilish is hinting at Taylor Swift. In an Instagram story, Eilish wrote,
“i wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues. & when it comes to variants, so many artists release them – including ME! which i clearly state in the article.”

The tenuous mention of ME! which is a hit single by Swift made fans think that Eilish is continuing to attack the Cruel Summer singer. Whether it was a thinly veiled attack on Swift or just Eilish trying to make a point that she also releases records, the debate goes on.
However, many people are also pointing out the negativity in the Swifties fanbase since it doesn’t take them long to tie everything back to Swift even when there is no apparent connection. There has been no bad blood between Eilish and Swift in the past and they even celebrate each other’s victories. It might just be another case of fans drawing a rift between two amazing singers when there is nothing to worry about.
