Most cinephiles look forward to movies and shows by Saoirse Ronan because her work tends to transport viewers to another time altogether. From period drama to heavy romances and coming-of-age stories, Ronan puts her heart and soul into every movie to make the viewers connect with her character and resonate with the story.

Her most recent venture is along the same lines, The Outrun, a movie that charts a woman’s struggle in life to be sober and enjoy life as it comes. The natural connection in the story along with breathtaking visuals add to Ronan’s charisma on screen. However, when it comes to the actress watching and enjoying movies, she has a very specific list that does not align with the projects she does.

Actors are often asked about their favorite movies and projects that they enjoy come what may, and most actors struggle to answer this question since there are so many great ones to pick from. For her four favorites, Saoirse Ronan picked the projects that are most unlike the ones she tends to do in her career.

While the movies that feature Ronan are usually period dramas or very intense, emotional stories, the actress loves the chick-flick comedy Bridesmaids, to start with. In conversation with Letterboxd, Ronan revealed,

There are movies that I have watched many, many, many times and there are other films that I’ve only watched once that are also some of my favorite films. Dirty Dancing, Sister Act. I also, in recent memory, loved Maestro. But I also watch really great filmmakers’ work like David Lean’s movies.

Two of Ronan’s favorites are comedy and romance movies, genres that the actress should really expand in because she certainly has the range for the same. Furthermore, while suggesting David Lean movies to her co-star Paapa Essiedu, she mentions Ryan’s Daughter as well.

Much like the talented actress Jennifer Lawrence, Ronan has focused on serious and meaningful roles in her career to date. The Red Sparrow, Mother!, and Hunger Games are some popular movies that cemented Lawrence’s position in the industry. She forayed into romcom with No Hard Feelings released last year.

Ronan is seemingly walking the same path, but it’s unclear if there is any romantic comedy in the cards for her in the near future. However, Ronan’s next project is another hard-hitting movie revolving around the impact of war on families and children. Titled Blitz, the war drama movie will take viewers on an emotional journey as a young child named George makes his way back to his family amidst the Second World War while his mother tirelessly looks for him in London.

Directed by Steve McQueen, Blitz is set to release on November 1, 2024.
