“We blame George because he made a prequel nobody asked for”: Fans Turn Against Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa After Tom Hardy’s Upsetting Update on Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel
The news about the next film in The Wasteland saga is a bit bumpy because Mad Max: Fury Road‘s lead actor, Tom Hardy, recently hinted that a straight-up sequel might be off the table. This has left some viewers feeling disappointed.
Moreover, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (which hit theaters last month) isn’t the film that many were hoping for after all. It didn’t even roar into theaters that well. Fans were actually excited to see Mad Max: The Wasteland, but the franchise took a turn and decided to tell Furiosa’s story instead. So, this has also thrown the future of The Wasteland into question.
Tom Hardy Casts Doubt on Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel
The die-hard fans of the high-octane action franchise Mad Max were thrown into a tailspin recently. It came after actor Tom Hardy seemingly dashed hopes for a sequel to the critically-acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road.
In an interview with Forbes, the Hollywood star bluntly stated, “I don’t think that’s happening,” when asked about the status of the proposed follow-up film titled The Wasteland.
This update follows on the heels of Anya Taylor-Joy‘s prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hitting theaters. This movie tells the story of Furiosa, a warrior played by Charlize Theron in the earlier film Mad Max: Fury Road. Fans were hoping for more high-speed action after the prequel. However, with Hardy’s revelation, it seems that won’t be happening anytime soon.
Is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Prequel Nobody Asked For?
Mad Max fans are venting online! A fan said, “We wanted to see Max and Furiosa together again, not a prequel nobody asked for!” This is a common struggle for franchises — balancing the desire to expand the universe with staying true to the core narrative that captured fans’ hearts in the first place.

Because they should’ve made THIS instead of that awful prequel nobody wanted. Yes I saw it. Yes it was awful. Yes it killed ATJ as an action star for quite some time.

why didn't he just make this instead of the furiousa prequel?

His own damned fault for choosing to make the aggressively mid Furiosa first.

But there’s a silver lining with Furiosa! This film tells a whole new story this time around. Critics loved its exciting action scenes and awesome visuals, which fit right in with other Mad Max films.
So, Furiosa might not be what fans wanted at first, but it’s still a good chance to learn more about the character and the Mad Max world. The future of Mad Max: The Wasteland is unclear. But fans can still enjoy a new high-speed adventure with Furiosa.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting June 24th!
