Despite his fame as Iron Man, there’s one movie that even Downey Jr. could not save. The film also had stars like Selena Gomez and Tom Holland. Yet, it only made $251 million at the box office, turning out to be a huge disappointment.

Robert Downey Jr’s Dolittle did not receive the reaction he had hoped for

Robert Downey Jr., well known for playing Iron Man, recently discussed his movie Dolittle, a remake of Doctor Dolittle that was directed by Stephen Gaghan, which did poorly at the box office. The actor admitted that he had doubts about the project even before it was a financial failure. Downey acknowledged that he and his team were more concerned with the intriguing deal. They were least bothered with the efficacy of the movie’s production. He was so popular at the time thanks to his part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that he felt unstoppable.

In light of the film’s underwhelming performance, Downey admitted that he immediately went into Dolittle after completing his Marvel contract in the hopes that it would launch yet another successful franchise. The movie’s reaction, however, wasn’t what he had hoped. It was a trying time for his career.

Robert Downey Jr. talked openly about his approach to filmmaking. He also mentioned the difference between the kinds of films he’s truly committed to and those that might just be filler for a streaming service. Downey remarked on the particularly challenging film, Doolittle in an interview with Variety. The movie didn’t do well at the box office. It received negative reviews from critics and viewers. Downey revealed how the experience had caused his wife to become immensely stressed. She had worked feverishly as a producer to make the movie as presentable as possible before its release.

Downey, however, had to reset his priorities as a result of the setback. It forced him to reconsider how he approached projects. Downey stated while talking to Variety, “After that point – what’s that phrase? Never let a good crisis go to waste? – we had this reset of priorities and made some changes in who our closest business advisers were.

He started making Sr., a film that details his father’s dying days, during that time. The movie was released in the year 2022 in selected theatres. Now the movie is available on Netflix for everyone to watch. Although the movie is important to Downey personally, he understands that it might only be a piece of content to others.
