By Anadya Narain

Timothy Olyphant is best known for playing U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens on FX's Justified and Cobb Vanth in Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

Olyphant appeared on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast this week and revealed he was up for the role of Captain James Tiberius Kirk role in 2009's Star Trek, played by Chris Pine.

"Here's what I can tell you about 'Star Trek': I went in and auditioned not for Captain Kirk, but I remember reading with J.J. Abrams and he's just a lovely, lovely guy," Olyphant revealed.

Olyphant explained  that Abrams asked him to audition for Kirk but the role eventually went to Chris Pine as he was younger.

"I have since then met Chris Pine and I am a huge fan of him both on and off screen. I love that guy," Olyphant continued. "He's a good dude. "

Olyphant was also part of the Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and returned as Seth Bullock that year in the Deadwood movie.
