Antony Starr talks about taking up superhero roles after The Boys
New Zealand actor Antony Starr, along with the cast of The Boys, appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he was asked about his opinion on joining either DC or Marvel as villains.
The actor was asked if he was ready to play yet another super-villain on-screen, as fans would like to see him play Booster Gold in James Gunn’s DCU, to which he answered that he had no idea that he had been fan-cast for the part. The host explained to the actor that it is because the character is similar to Homelander in some way. Antony Starr added,
I am getting old, and my body doesn’t want to take much action anymore. I want to sit and go, ‘Hey, you go and do that stuff.’ I want to sit behind a desk on a CSI show and, you know, say, ‘You shouldn’t have done that; go back out and try harder.
Apart from Booster Gold, the actor was named the top choice for playing Dracula in Mahershala Ali’s Blade. Concept art showcased the actor as Dracula, who is the nemesis of Blade. But clearly, the actor does not seem to be interested in playing a superhero role after portraying Homelander.
Fans quickly reacted to the actor refusing to take up the role and releasing that he’s 48 years old. A user reacted to the actor’s age, ‘When to Google it and he’s nearly 50’, while another user mentioned, ‘Harrison Ford is 81 Years old and he’s about to play Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World. I’m sure Starr can find a way to make it work.’

In an interview back in May, while speaking to Comic Book, the actor was asked about being one of the top choices to play Reverse Flash in James Gunn’s DCU. According to ScreenRant, there is a lot of potential in Reverse-Flash, as he is the villain that Starr can play flawlessly. However, Starr said,
Me and James just play golf. I cannot wait to see what he does with the DC Universe. I think he’s a phenomenal director and producer. He’s one of the biggest brands in the industry, so I’m excited to see what he cooks up.
Antony Starr’s portrayal of Homelander is known to be one of the best villains’s castings, and fans believe that the character is going to be iconic that no one could surpass or recast.
Antony Starr says Season 5 is the ‘right time’ to end The Boys
The actor, who is now a household name with his portrayal of Supe on Erick Kripke’s The Boys, shared during an interview that he is not thinking too much about season 5 being the end of their show. Starr said via IGN,
I can’t go there yet because, first of all, we’ve got a long way to go, and I want to make the most of it and enjoy it. I’m enjoying what’s happening with the show at the moment.
He mentioned that the cast and crew worked hard on Season 4, noting that everybody has put so much into it, and it feels good to have the viewers finally watching it. He noted that if he stops and thinks about how Season 5 is going to be last season, they’ll all work together, and he’ll be sad. Antony Starr said,
We started before COVID and released Season 2 in COVID. We did all the press for that in seclusion and isolation in our homes, and then all of a sudden we came back. We shot in COVID. It’s been such a ride together with this group of people that it’ll be very sad. It’ll be a sad day to hang up the spandex.
However, the actor shared during the interview that he is very conscious that he wants The Boys to go out on a positive, strong note and does not want the show to be pushed to one more season and fall flat. He added that on behalf of everyone who has worked hard on the show, they deserve to go out with their heads held high and not feel they should have pushed one more season.
Antony Starr lastly added that he feels Season 5 is the right time for them to hang their superhero costumes, even though it’ll be a very hard thing to do.
The Boys is streaming on Amazon Prime.
