According to studio president Kevin Feige, Marvel’s What If…? characters might possibly return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in media other than the Disney+ animated streaming series. The first season of the animated What If…? series presented Marvel fans to alternate versions of their favorite MCU characters, some of whom may appear in other media in the future. Feige highlighted the production of the first season of What If…? in the newest episode of Marvel Studios: Assembled, another Disney+ series that delves behind the scenes of several Marvel projects. The President of Marvel Studios commented on the potential of revealing the stories of the Marvel multiverse in a quotation acquired by The Direct, and hinted that the ideas explored in What If…? may flow over into other media.

“I genuinely feel that extending fictitious mythology is a way to appreciate them more, understand them better, and look at them in a different light,” Feige remarked. “They’re now working on two seasons of What If…? concepts, which have some of the greatest storytelling we’ve ever seen and may be adapted for other mediums. It’s the most distinct and gorgeous animated series I’ve seen in a long time.” What If…? has already provided a slew of different versions of characters and storylines for the rest of the MCU to draw from, many of which have struck a chord with fans. Captain Carter, a Peggy Carter clone who acquired the super soldier serum in place of Steve Rogers. Carter served as the season’s eponymous bookend, assuming command of the Guardians of the Multiverse during the season’s climactic final fight. The fan-favorite figure has previously been rumored to feature in the MCU film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which is set to hit theatres in March 2022.

Another Popular Character Was Star-Lord T’Challa:

Star-Lord T’Challa, a reincarnation of the Wakandan prince taken from Earth by the Ravagers, was another famous figure. Bryan Andrews, the series’ director, recently disclosed that Marvel had planned a Star-Lord T’challa spinoff series prior to Chadwick Boseman’s terrible death in August of 2020. While Andrews stated that the spinoff is now “in limbo,” he did not rule out the possibility of the character returning to the MCU in any manner, suggesting that “maybe one day” ideas for the series may be revived. As of yet, Marvel has not confirmed if any of the notable What If…? characters would resurface in subsequent MCU media, but fans haven’t seen the last of them. Captain Carter has already been confirmed to return in Season 2, which is now in the works. A.C. Bradley, the series’ lead writer, has also announced that the Season 1 finale’s Iron Man and Gamora, who were initially scheduled to debut earlier in the series, will finally have their tale explored in What If…? Season 2. Season 1 of What If…? is  available on Disney+. The debut date for Season 2 has yet to be announced.
