This animated show was first slated for a release in 2023, but moved to this year, and has arrived on Disney+ at 3:00 AM with the first episode, featuring the reunion of the iconic X-Men characters.
According to GamesRadar+, the first season of X-Men ’97 will consist of 10 episodes, with the first and second set for a release today, and will air each Wednesday till May 15, 2024, in the US and UK. Another detail about this newly released show that will delight every X-Men: The Animated Series enthusiast is that most of the original cast members are returning for X-Men ’97.
This means that Cal Dodd has voiced the most beloved Wolverine, Chris Potter voiced Gambit, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Lenore Zann returned as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Alison Sealy-Smith gave life again to Storm, and Chris Britton is coming back as Mr. Sinister The unfortunate news about the two X-Men characters is that Norm Spencer and David Hemblen are not returning as Cyclops and Magneto due to their demise, even though the characters will paper in X-Men ’97. The role of Jean Grey has been helmed by Jennifer Hale replacing Catherine Disher from the original series.

The showrunner and executive producer of this newly released series Beau DeMayo has been fired after he completed his work in seasons 1 and 2 (via Variety). This news came before the March 13 Hollywood premiere of X-Men ’97, and the exact reason behind his firing hasn’t been revealed yet.
The first season will continue the story of X-Men: The Animated Series, but will see Magneto as the new leader instead of Professor X. This divergence from the traditional story will likely help X-Men ’97 generate excitement among fans. The newcomers include Sunspot, Nightcrawler, Bishop, and Cable.
