Peacemaker season 2 will expand on the events after the action-packed conclusion of season 1, which introduced viewers to a whole new side of Christopher Smith. John Cena will be reprising his role, as will Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Danielle Brooks.

Some new faces will also be added, like Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and David Denman in an undisclosed role.

The shooting for season 2 started earlier this year, and although the story is still being kept under wraps, James Gunn has dropped a big clue for a new character. In a recent post, Gunn shared a picture of a shirtless man with braided pigtails and feathers on his arms.

Gunn captioned the post, “Who might this be?” There is a theory that it could possibly be Apache Chief, who has a history in DC animation. Apache Chief was first seen in Hanna-Barbera’s Super Friends cartoon from the 70s, and he has the ability to grow to enormous sizes.

Besides Apache Chief, other fan suggestions on characters include characters like Long Shadow from Justice League Unlimited or Manitou Raven from the comics. Whoever this character is, it seems Gunn is focusing on world-building in the DCU.

Peacemaker season 2, which will most probably be released in 2025, will be set in the new DCU continuity. Some aspects from the first season will be continued, but Gunn stated on Threads that season 2 will take place after the Superman film. This leaves fans to wonder how Peacemaker could fit into the new universe of DCU.

Who Is DC’s Apache Chief?

Apache Chief is a lesser-known yet quite interesting character in DC history. Originally appearing in the animated TV show, The All-New Super Friends Hour, he was an instant hit among viewers. His origin story is as classic as most of the superheroes with magical powers. A young, brave man gets the power to be strong and grow big through magical powder.

Originally, Apache Chief‘s catchphrase, “inee choh,” which in Western Apache means “man big,” triggers his size-changing powers. In cartoons, he was able to grow to 50 feet, and some of the stories took the character even further. In one episode, he grew up to one-fifth the size of the Earth.

Apache Chief has inspired many other characters in the history of DC. Tye Longshadow in Young Justice and Long Shadow in Justice League Unlimited are inspired by Apache Chief. Each iteration has included new concepts, powers, and elements of identity and heroism into it.

Apache Chief came at a time when creators were not creating many non-white superheroes. His abilities and background are not typical for the majority of the DC characters fans are used to watching. It would be a bold move to cast him in Peacemaker, but it would also be exciting because of James Gunn’s ability to blend action, comedy, and character development.
