“Why Bob would do this is beyond my reckoning”: Robert De Niro’s Partnership With Uber Gets to a Shaky Start After Backlash Over the Rumored ‘Taxi Driver’ Ad
Hollywood’s biggest star, Robert De Niro, is recognized for starring in many well-known films. He was born in 1943 and began acting in the 1960s, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that he really rose to fame. De Niro has appeared in a wide range of films, including dramas, action films, and more. He has performed both major and supporting parts. He has garnered a net worth of $500 million. However, he recently partnered up with Uber, and others are unsure of it. There has been a lot of controversy and debate about the rumors that he would appear in the Uber advertisement as a character from Taxi Driver, one of his earlier films.
Robert De Niro’s representative clarifies the actor’s reprisal of Taxi Driver role rumors
Uber has a history of working with popular personalities to promote its services, and Robert De Niro is the newest celebrity to join their impressive roster. Other famous people who have been in Uber commercials include Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Silverman, Trevor Noah, Jennifer Coolidge, and Nicholas Braun. Despite repeated speculations, De Niro won’t be revisiting his popular Taxi Driver character Travis Bickle for Uber’s UK advertising campaign.
In order to clarify any misunderstandings, De Niro’s representative, Stan Rosenfield, made it clear to The Hollywood Reporter that the commercial had nothing to do with his role in Taxi Driver. Rosenfield said, “De Niro’s Uber commercial has nothing to do with his Taxi Driver character.” This news is welcome because there has been a lot of backlash regarding the speculations that De Niro will be reprising his classic role.
Taxi Driver writer disappointed by Robert De Niro’s Uber collaboration
There were rumors earlier this week that Robert De Niro, an acclaimed Oscar-winning actor, might reprise his catchphrase “You talkin’ to me?” from the movie Taxi Driver in Uber’s advertisements. This allegation, it turns out, is untrue, and De Niro’s work with Uber has nothing to do with any of his previous film roles. Any hopes that De Niro might channel his Taxi Driver image for the ride-sharing company have been dashed by the clarification given by his representative.
Even Taxi Driver‘s Academy Award-nominated writer Paul Schrader shared his comments on Facebook via The Hollywood Reporter in response to the rumors of De Niro reprising his Taxi Driver role for Uber. “Ouch,” remarked Schrader, further saying “Why Bob would do this is beyond my reckoning. But I haven’t seen it. If I’m lucky, I never will.”
Although the Uber commercial is currently being produced in London and is scheduled to be released later this year, it is obvious that De Niro won’t be reprising his legendary Travis Bickle role.
