Back in 2018, Carrey revealed that he did not like the shift in the industry with production houses and corporates taking over the reins in creative projects. He wanted to distance himself from that noise and have the sanctity of the work remain alive in his life.

In the same interview, the host asked Carrey if he would ever return to the big screens. The actor has always believed in making an impact on the world and then respecting the same by doing whatever one can. Talking about a possible return on only one condition, Carrey shared,

If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink, that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.

It seems like the golden script came sooner than fans imagined as Carrey is returning to movies with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The actor understands the travails of the movie business and knows how important his character is to the franchise.
