The ending of the popular action dark fantasy anime, Attack on Titan finally concluded on November 5th, 2023, and it certainly left viewers with tears. The struggle of watching Mikasa bring Eren‘s severed head to Armin was too much for fans to handle, even rendering some hate coming towards the writer of the popular anime and manga, Hajime Isayama.

The manga has sold over 140 million volumes and was one of the hottest animes to air for almost a decade. However, the monstrous anime is looking to make a musical. The Attack on Titan and Anime fans in general seem confused about the decision to make the post-apocalyptic anime into a musical.

Masafumi Hata took the initiative to write the script for Hajime Isayama‘s Attack on Titan manga and anime into a musical. The musical premiered on January 7th, 2023 in Osaka Japan, and now looks to take the show to New York at the City Center from October 11th to 13th later this year.

However, unfortunately for the ambitious musical, a majority of the fans don’t seem to understand the point of there being a musical for the manga series in the first place. A Twitter post on the announcement of the “Attack on Titan: The Musical” coming to New York was received with the most enthusiasm… at least not from the majority of fans.

However, despite the majority in the comment section of the post not looking seemingly interested in the musical, there are still people who are excited to watch and be a part of the experience. Given that its premiere in Japan was deemed to be a great success, its debut in the US will most likely be just as good. Especially given that it has received high praise from Hajime Isayama himself.

Attack on Titan: The Musical has absolutely impressed fans in Japan and now looks to bring the live feel of the popular anime to American audiences. The musical is directed by Go Ueki, the breakdance world champion, and music supervision by KEN THE 390 with lyrics by Kaori Miura. The choreography and soundtrack along with the script by Masafumi Hata has even gained great praise by the original writer of Attack on Titan himself.

Hajime Isayama’s comment on the musical moving to New York stated,

“When I saw the production in Tokyo, I was floored by how powerful it was. I felt that a musical was the perfect medium to express the story of ATTACK on TITAN. The action and the songs by the performers have created a new ATTACK on TITAN that is different from the manga or the anime series. They have created such an amazing show, and I cannot wait for everyone to see it in New York. Please look forward to the opening.”

Though Attack on Titan: The Musical might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the positive reviews on the live performance seem intriguing enough for some who are willing to give it a go. The tickets will go on sale to the general public starting June 3rd,2024, at 12 PM (EST).
