Why Dwayne Johnson Would Not Run For President Even If He Might be the First Hollywood Star to Win the Election?
- Dwayne Johnson’s presidential bid is supported by nearly half of Americans.
- Previously, he also expressed interest in running for president.
- However, The Rock is focusing on family and his busy film career now.
Imagine a president who’s six feet four inches tall, bald, and tattooed, with a mix of Black and Samoan heritage. He enjoys tequila, drives a pickup truck, and sports a fanny pack (this is how Dwayne Johnson described himself).
It’s not far-fetched because nearly half of Americans would actually back The Rock for president. This surprising support comes despite his background in wrestling and entertainment. However, there are several reasons why Johnson might be held back from running.
Dwayne Johnson Would Make a Great President, Though
In a 2021 poll, 46% of Americans said they’d vote for Dwayne Johnson if he ran for president (reported by Deadline). This huge popularity got the attention of both political parties, who reached out to him in late 2022 to see if he was interested. Back in 2016, the 52-year-old told GQ that he found the idea of becoming governor or president pretty exciting, saying:
I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring.
His sitcom Young Rock even includes a plot where he runs for president in 2032. These moments hint that he might have some secret political dreams. There’s a good chance Johnson could do well as a candidate. He’s got a magnetic charm and knows how to relate to people.
Plus, his ‘centrist’ stance might attract voters fed up with extreme politics. With his huge social media following, he can reach voters directly and skip the traditional media routes.
What’s Stopping Dwayne Johnson from Running for President?
Dwayne Johnson, who previously hinted at a presidential run, has now decided to put those plans on hold. He told CBS News in 2022 that his family, especially his three daughters, are his top priority right now. The Hollywood star said:
The most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.
On What Now? with Trevor Noah, Johnson talked about how his wrestling career kept him away from his eldest daughter, Simone. He asserted that he doesn’t want to repeat that with his younger girls. The Black Adam actor hasn’t completely ruled out running for office in the future, but he’s focused on his family. He said in the same podcast that if the people really want him to lead, he’d think about it:
If that’s ultimately what the people would want, then of course I would consider it.
Currently, The Rock has a lot going on. He’s starring in Red One, which is coming out this year, and also has Moana 2 and a new Moana film on the way. His future projects include Fast X: Part 2, The Smashing Machine, Red Notice 2, Jungle Cruise 2, Jumanji 4, San Andreas 2, Big Trouble in Little China, and The King.
