- Filming for the sequel may begin next year for a 2026 release date.
Imagine a scene with fast cars, high stakes situation, with handsome hunks at the wheel and it’s impossible not to envision the incredible Fast and the Furious franchise. Having been around for two decades now, the franchise has become a staple of the action genre with a few poignant scenes added for impact.
Starring Vin Diesel as the central character with a roster of popular actors as villains, including John Cena, the franchise works wonders at the box office too. The next movie in the series is going to be Fast X Part 2, which is in short the eleventh movie of the franchise.
The biggest suspense in these movies is often the characters that the creators will choose to include. In ten movies so far, they have managed to introduce us to a variety of people who drive cars like they have nothing to lose along, with some trouble-making characters that need to be put in their place. Let’s take a look at the recent updates regarding Fast X Part 2.
Will John Cena return in Fast X Part 2?
We were introduced to the muscular antagonist Jakob Torreto in the ninth installment of Fast and the Furious. Played by WWE champion John Cena, the character soon turned from a villain to a hero, making him a fan favorite overnight. Cena appeared in both the ninth and tenth movies in the franchise, potentially paving the way for him to return for the final movie in the saga.
However, Cena recently revealed that he would be returning to the ring in 2025 for various events and matches to revive his career in sporting events. He shared with his fans that he would possibly be a part of events like Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania.
While this makes his wrestling fans ecstatic, the announcement left something to be desired for his Hollywood fans. Cena has consolidated his place in the industry with quirky roles and comedic timing that makes it fun for people to watch him in movies.
With these recent commitments, it seems unlikely for the 16-time world champion to return to the Fast and the Furious franchise.
John Cena’s Character dies in Fast X
Another reason why it’s unlikely for Cena to make a comeback in the Fast franchise is because his character Jakob Torreto died in the previous flick. After turning his back on the dark side of villainy and becoming an ally to the heroes of the series, Cena makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect his family and gives his life in the process.
He helps Dom get his son Brian to safety by blowing up the villain’s car with a canon, dying in the end to let the others live on. This sacrifice eventually makes him a memorable part of the saga and helps the other characters remember him fondly. Though death has hardly stopped the franchise from bringing its characters back to life, it seems improbable that Cena will return as Torreto in Fast X Part 2.
When will Fast X Part 2 be released?
Vin Diesel announced at the 2023 CinemaCon event that he will be returning to the big screen for an explosive sequel titled Fast X Part 2 in 2025. However, given that there are no updates announced on the plot, cast, and crew of the movie, it seems like the movie will be pushed to a later date. As of now, it is anticipated that Fast X Part 2 will begin filming by next year, eying a release date of 2026.
Diesel is expected to return despite the explosive climax of Fast X. Along with him, Jason Momoa will continue to make things troublesome for the family of street racers in the upcoming movie. Rest assured, Fast X Part 2 will certainly be a star-studded event as many of the past characters might make a comeback to say goodbye to the saga once and for all.
