If you ask what is in store for Superman next, the answer is a proper reboot. Now, Warner Bros is looking ahead to reboot the franchise with JJ Abrams producing the project. As per Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Superman project maybe a 20th century period piece with Black Panther comics writer Ta-Nehisi penning the script and Hannah Minghella serving as the producer.

The reports claim that this version of Superman will have its origins derived from the comics and will see the protagonist hailing from Krypton. THR adds that Superman will be brought to life with a black actor with Warner Bros determined to have a black director helming the project. Early predictions hint towards Barry Jenkins or Ryan Coogler.

As reports to make a black Superman film surface, Michael B. Jordan met with DC officials to discuss a possible Superman film. In a recent interview, Jordan told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m flattered that people have me in that conversation. It’s definitely a compliment, but I’m just watching on this one.”

This might be the perfect time to give a major remake to the character. A new version might be a breeze of fresh air to many fans and if the story takes us back to the 20th century, it will make sure that the character development will be rich.

The project will make history as it will be the first live-action DC property to show a Black Superman. Since Kryptonians are an alien race filled with different ethnicities, the possibility to show a black Kal-El seems bright. We also have Val-Zod, one of the last Kryptonians hailing from Earth-2 who becomes Superman. With Jordan unavailable to play the role, we might see John Boyega, John David Washington and Daniel Kaluuya play the role. Since the reboot is in its initial phase of development, it might be sometime before DC casts its new hero.
